About the Book

When former Navy Seal Ranger Kingston rescues his kidnapped brother, he discovers among the hostages a woman he once promised to protect. But protecting Noemi Oyoma Sutton this time will require a marriage of convenience--which is decidedly inconvenient if she is to protect him from a deadly secret.

Book Synopsis

When former Navy SEAL and lifelong bachelor Ranger Kingston is called upon to take part in a rescue mission to save his brother Colt, who has been kidnapped by terrorists in Nigeria, he is shocked to find among the hostages a woman he knows and could never forget.

Noemi Sutton was attempting to return a young girl to her family in Boko Haram territory when she and the girl found themselves taken hostage, along with several others.

And while Ranger Kingston may be able to get the hostages away from their captors, he'll need Noemi's help if he ever hopes to get out of Nigeria alive.

Her solution? Pose as husband and wife. But when her uncle discovers the union, he insists on a traditional Nigerian wedding--binding Noemi to a man destined to break her heart. Worse, she's discovered the real reason she was kidnapped, and anyone around her is bound to be caught in the cross fire. Including her so-called new husband.

She'll need to figure out a way to leave the man she loves if she wants to save his life.

USA Today bestselling author Susan May Warren throws you into the thick of the action in this high-stakes, globe-trotting romance.

This story is an amazing example of how love can grab hold of us even when we decide that we don't want it. Ranger and Noemi had both decided to focus on one part of their life and push away other parts, but God knows the path that we will be walking and when we let Him, he can bless us more than we can possibly imagine, even when the darkness falls.

I can always count on this author to take me for quite a ride when I read one of her adventure-suspense books! The setting of Nigeria was fascinating and I loved the things I learned about the people and culture there. The danger felt so real and I can't imagine being in those circumstances. The flashbacks to Ranger and Noemi's first meeting and brief relationship were foundational to understanding their current tension and angst, and their amazing chemistry. I loved how their personalities complemented each other in the best ways. There is also an inspirational thread as both Ranger and Noemi find and strengthen their faith in God and each other. While they were on the run, we have another continuing story in Alaska with the woman rescued from the blizzard and her ties to the Russians. By the end of the book I could start to make out some of the puzzle pieces to the bigger picture and I can't wait for the next book to see how they fit together and especially Colt and Tae's romance! Sunburst by Susan May Warren is the second book in the Sky King Ranch series, and if you have not met the Kingston brothers yet…what are you waiting for? One of my favorite parts of Sunburst is the dedication to the author’s daughter-in-law. For me, it made every word after more beautiful! But what an amazing story! The author does a fantastic job of making the action pop from the page, the emotion stir your heart, and the characters nestle deep in your mind. It’s a story you won’t stop thinking about once you close the cover! Ranger and Noemi’s story was thrilling from beginning to end and fits them perfectly. I loved their temperamental, second-chance romance. The witty banter. The raw moments. They are two warriors battling to protect each other’s hearts. I guarantee you will fall for them both immediately. And as much as I love The Sky King Ranch, the time Ranger and Noemi spent in Nigeria with her uncle was definitely my favorite. It was so peaceful, beautiful, and full of life and color. An oasis in a story of struggle and survival. Overall, I’m in love with this book (and the series!). I can’t tell you how many times my husband kept asking, “What’s so good about that book? I can tell you’re in deep.” All the things, people! All the things! Suspense. Romance. Warriors. Family. Healing. Trust. If you are a fan of romantic suspense, like Lynette Eason or Dani Pettrey, you will want to read this book! I was given a copy of this book by the publisher with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions are my own.

I could not wait to get my hands on this book. Susan May Warren always keeps me up too late turning pages, and this book is no different. Sunburst is the second book in the Sky King Ranch series. In this story we follow Ranger as he is on a mission to save his brother from a terrorist group that kidnapped him. His brother Cole is far from helpless, and Ranger knows that the people they are up against aren’t going to give up easy. Little does he know that his brother isn’t the only person he knows who was kidnapped. Noemi was the first and only woman to get under Rangers skin. I loved watching the interactions between the two of them. Imagine running into someone who might have been the love of your life, but that you chose to walk away from. Their chemistry was undeniable. This story took me on a wild and unpredictable ride. I was biting my nails and then jumping for joy. Warren did it again, and I can’t wait to see what she does next. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Suspense. Warren knows how to make the perfect combo of romance, mystery, and suspense. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 3!

Sunburst is the second book in the Sky King Ranch series. I HIGHLY recommend reading the first book, Sunrise, before diving into this one. There are several story threads that continue from Sunrise to Sunburst and from Sunburst into Sundown (coming 11/22). Susan May Warren ramped up the action and suspense in this second installment. A lot is going on with the characters: secrets, second chance romance (slow-burn), reconciliation, character growth, healing, and so much more. Half the story takes place in Nigeria and the other half is in Alaska, both great locations, in my opinion. I like that this series revolves around the Kingston brothers, and it has been interesting seeing them interact with each other through the first two books. I can't wait until Sundown comes out to read Colt and Tae's story. Thank you to Revell for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Globe Trotting with Danger!

As usual, Noemi is right in the middle of the action. Only this time, the action is a terrorist holding her and a young teenager, Precious, hostage. Shockingly, Ranger, a man she has a history with suddenly appears to rescue them. Things do not go smoothly, and all of their lives are put at risk to save Precious. They do get Precious away, but at a cost: they miss the connection with the evacuation team, and Ranger is seriously injured. They must reconnect with the team to get out, but how? Noemi has family in Nigeria so they head there. Doing so puts them in a life and death struggle to get there before Ranger dies, and before the terrorists catch up with them. They are slowed down by lack of transportation and food, as well as, not knowing who to trust. When they make it to her homeland, Noemi finds her uncle is king! He welcomes them with open arms. But somehow he thinks Noemi and Ranger want to marry. The king sets his family to work planning a lavish, traditional marriage ceremony. Danger still follows them, and they don't know how they are being tracked. Should Noemi and Ranger risk insulting the king by telling him they are just a pretend couple, not really engaged? Will one or both of them admit they have strong feelings for the other? Will they leave her uncle's palace before anyone gets hurt? Is there anyplace on earth the two can go to that will be safe? This globe-trotting book goes from Africa to Alaska, and many points in between. The traditional wedding, family and life in Africa is a delight to the senses. The time in Alaska is fun, but there is always something lurking just around the corner. The past shared by Noemi and Ranger draw them together, but it also keeps them apart. Ranger has something else that he doesn't want to admit to anyone, especially Noemi. This five-plus star clean book is bursting with intrigue and suspense. I highly recommend it to fans of the genre, along with anyone who wants a well-written story, with a Christian viewpoint. Revell Publishing has provided Tickmenot with a complimentary copy of, Sunburst, for the purpose of review.

Sunburst, by Susan May Warren is book two in the Sky King Ranch series. This story takes over where the first book ends, so it is best to read them in order. This story takes place modern day in Nigeria and Alaska. I just loved how the Kingston brothers were able to set aside their differences to help rescue Colt. I enjoyed the reconnection of Ranger and Noemi and the rekindling of their relationship. I also enjoyed the strength Noemi had in refusing to allow the young girl to not be rescued. I appreciated how the author wrote in the traditions of the Nigerian weddings and the food they ate. The struggles Ranger and Noemi had regarding their wedding are so real, was it just part of staying safe and were they really married? I totally enjoyed the input his father had regarding this. This story is filled with so much action and suspense that is was hard for me to put the book down. I especially enjoyed catching up with the rest of the Kingston family. I enjoyed the Christian aspect of this story and the gentle advice his father gives as well as the love shared to others. It was fun to have more of the story from book one revealed as well. I look forward to reading the next story in the series. I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this story from the author and publisher. This is my honest review.

Sunburst is a great continuation of Susan May Warren’s Sky King Ranch series. I really enjoyed the first book in the series, but surprisingly loved this second installment even more. This romantic suspense has a lot going on that made me feeling like I was on a thrilling roller coaster ride. I loved getting to know Ranger and Noemi. Their story was not predictable and I never knew what was going to happen next, making me want to keep reading to see what was going to happen next. I am giving Sunburst a very well deserved five plus stars. Readers who enjoy reading clean romantic suspense. I am looking forward to reading the next book from the Sky King Ranch series, Sundown. I received a paperback copy of Sunburst from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

A fantastic page-turner of a story! These characters are likeable and relatable. The story takes off from page one and keeps you hooked until the end...if fact, there's a bit of a cliff hanger, so you'll want to pick up book #3 as soon as it's available! Ranger is a fantastic hero! He's strong but vulnerable, hunky but sensitive, capable but humble. One of my favorite parts of the story is the banter between the hero and heroine. They have a really sweet relationship that I enjoyed following! A great read for any romance/romantic suspense lover! I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. This clean Christian story is book 2 in the new Sky King Ranch series. This story mostly follows Ranger and Noemi experiences during their travels in Nigeria. This story had lots of action and an interesting plot that kept me glued from one chapter to the other. I liked reading about the Nigerian culture and how they celebrate weddings specifically. Jane Doe mentioned towards the end of book 1 shows up again during this book and will continue into at least book number 3. I like the side plot of including a Jane Doe and the mystery surrounding her. I love the family solidarity and commitment to helping each other no matter what in these books! I absolutely love this clean suspense romance series and can’t wait to read more! I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

What a story and in two of my absolutely favorite settings—the lush, deep forests of Africa, with its tall locust bean trees and replete with all manner of wild baboons, monkeys, jaguars, and the lethal black mamba (EEK!)—to beautiful Alaska with its beautiful wildflowers and snow-capped mountains! I absolutely adored these heroic Kingstons...there's just something special about a series that's comprised of brothers—their camaraderie, amusing back and forth quips, arguments, and love—always that first and foremost. The relationship between tough as nails, beautiful Noemi Sutton and former Navy Seal, Ranger Kingston is well...let's just say complicated. When the two are forced into a traditional Nigerian wedding the big question of the day is "Do Nigerian weddings count?" A beautifully written novel filled with danger, excitement, romance, and humor...be sure to find out for yourself why everyone is buzzing with excitement about Susan May Warren's 'Sunburst'! *I received a complimentary ARC of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a favorable review.*

Susan May Warren captivated me immediately. I enjoyed Sunburst every bit as much as I enjoyed Sunrise, book 1 in this series (maybe more!). With everything from looming danger and a smoldering romance, to faith-filled heartfelt moments, Warren had me holding my breath while simultaneously devouring the pages at warp speed. Warren’s dynamic, relatable characters, expertly delivered plot and creative genius shone brightly in this novel. I loved the heart-pounding suspense and tug-of-war chemistry between Ranger and Noemi. I was fully immersed in their story as the stakes got higher and the excitement grew. I enjoyed the rugged heroism Ranger displayed and Noemi’s fierce independence. Both were fabulous, multi-layered characters whom I adored as I witnessed their emotional turmoil, internal struggles and shortcomings firsthand. Their romance won me over completely! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, Warren is a master at mixing adventure, suspense, faith, heroics and family into her stories. The Kingston family is strong, capable and diverse. I also loved the “appearances” of some of my other favorite characters from Warren’s previous books. Lastly, I loved the dual setting of this story, with a portion of it taking place in the deserts and jungles of Nigeria and another portion taking place in the wildflower laden valley of Alaska at the foot of the snow-capped mountains. Warren brought the wilds of Nigeria alive with her vivid descriptions of the culture, customs and cuisine. Plus, the little sneak peek into book three already has me counting down the days until its release! *I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher. All thoughts are my own and I was not required to post a positive review.

THE MISSION OF MARRIAGE

4 out of 5 stars

Connywithay - 9 months ago
“Yeah, well, she’d gotten them into this mess. She could get them out,” Noemi Sutton determines in Susan May Warren’s novel, Sunburst. ~ What ~ Book two of three in the Sky King Ranch series, this three-hundred-and-sixty-eight-page paperback targets those who like a Christian contemporary romance about a mission of marrying and finding love. Containing no profanity, topics of kidnapping, physical abuse, and death may not be appropriate for immature readers. The author’s biography and advertisements are included. In this fast-paced tale, Navy SEAL Ranger Kingston doesn’t know what to do involving his faltering career so jumps at the first chance to help rescue his brother in Nigeria who is held captive with Noemi Sutton, a past love he cannot forget. Posing as husband and wife to leave the country, the two marry, questioning if it could be something they are both seeking. As terrorists follow them to Alaska, they must learn to rely on God and remember He will always find us and love us unconditionally. ~ Why ~ This story is engaging and entertaining as it deals with two people who want to control and take charge. It has plenty of action mixed with a romance revisited from the past. I appreciated its focus on God always watching and waiting for us to call out to Him. The Nigerian culture and wedding ceremony were interesting. ~ Why Not ~ Some may not like a tale that includes kidnapping in Boko Haram territory. Others may not care for the added character later in the story as it is hard at first to connect the dots. Since I had read the first in the series and loved it, I was a bit disappointed in this one’s disjointed ending and sometimes unrealistic situations, but there is one more book being written. ~ Wish ~ While I greatly appreciated the reference to God always being there for us, I wish the author included a more detailed eternal plan of salvation. I prefer all pronouns of God capitalized for reverence. ~ Want ~ If you enjoy a suspenseful read about trying to accomplish a mission while finding what is the most important in life, this will be enjoyed. No doubt, you will want to read its final sequel to find out what else happens to the Sky Ranch family. Thanks to Revell and the author for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.

It has been awhile since I read a book by Susan May Warren, and Sunburst was a delightful reintroduction to her books. It is the second book of her Sky King Ranch series, but I had no difficulty entering the series with this book. That said, it really doesn't work as a stand-alone read because it ends very literally with a cliff hanger. A special aspect of Sunburst is Warren's inclusion of Nigerian culture as a way of honoring her new daughter-in-law, a member of the Delta Tribe in Nigeria. The time they spent together via Zoom must have been a great time of bonding as they worked to assure authenticity. Warren did a wonderful job of engaging all of the reader's senses both in the Nigerian and Alaskan settings. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of Sunburst from Revell via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Susan May Warren's new book treats readers to quite an adventure, as they're transported to a terrorist camp in Nigeria and then back to Sky King Ranch in beautiful Alaska. Ranger Kingston is on a rescue mission, but his own heart may need rescuing after he and Noemi Sutton find each other again. A pretend marriage becomes necessary for survival but the special physical chemistry and deep emotional bond between Ranger and Noemi make it very real in appearance. Can their already tender hearts endure another goodbye? Warren has a unique talent for creating characters to cheer for, romance that leaves us yearning for more, and adventures that keep us on the edge of our seats! She also ministers to readers spiritually with the relevant faith messages that she weaves into all of her stories. I thoroughly enjoyed Sunburst and I'm excited to read book 3 of the Sky King Ranch series. I received a review copy from the author and from Revell via Interviews and Reviews. These are my honest thoughts.

Sunburst, the second installment of the Sky King Ranch series, focuses on the youngest triplet, Ranger Kingston, a former SEAL who is on a mission to save his brother and the woman Ranger loves, Noemi Sutton. In Sunburst, readers get to travel to Nigeria and Alaska and the pictures Warren paints of these locations makes it easy to visualize the beauty of both. Warren is the master of deep point of view, which makes it easy to get inside the characters. I thought there was more fun moments in this book even though the story is very serious. Both Noemi and Ranger made me laugh as I read their thoughts and reactions. And the overall theme of “I will find you” was just the sweetest thing ever. It’s a love story, but it also has daring rescues, chase scenes, and a lot of close calls. There’s a story thread that is yet to be solved that began in the first book, so know you have one more book to read to know everything that is happening. I really enjoyed this book. I received an ARC for review; however, I purchased the paperback for my collection.

Former SEAL Ranger Kingston is involved in a mission to rescue a group in Nigeria from Boko Haram. In fulfilling this mission, he meets Noemi Sutton for the second time and realizes that they may be destined to be together. With his brothers Dodge and Colt, Ranger runs toward danger and this book is chock full of action from page one all the way to the end. Set mostly in Nigeria but also in Alaska, the descriptions themselves make the book worth reading. The characters were take-charge and rough and ready kind of people. I especially loved Noemi’s family in Nigeria, particularly her Aunt Precious and Uncle Efe who loved her so much and wanted to take care of her. The celebration that they organized for her was sheer perfection to read and an education about customs in Nigeria. Ranger’s family in Alaska is a daring one, with a sky rescue service and the willingness to go wherever they were needed. So much was happening in this book at all times that I almost got whiplash from reading it! This was a fun, entertaining and edge-of-your-seat read that I had difficulty putting down. Each time I returned to it, I was so happy to see that the characters were all still alive because it was that realistic. I loved every minute that I spent engrossed in this book and I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series. Fans of romantic suspense, with the emphasis on thrilling suspense, will devour this book and clamor for more from this talented author. Oh Wow! Ranger and Naomi just melted my heart! This was an awesome story full of everything I like: danger, intrigue, faked marriage, second chance sweet romance, challenging situations, humor and wit, deep and compelling characters, unputdownable plot, you name it! This is the second installment in the Sky King Ranch Series: Triplets Dodge, Ranger and Colt each have a story in it, and now it’s Ranger’s story, the youngest -by minutes, of course- of the three. Ranger Kingston, former Navy SEAL, is called to a rescue mission to free his brother Colt from terrorists in Nigeria. What he never expects is to find his love flame Noemi among the hostages he rescues. Noemi Sutton, the daughter of a deceased Navy SEAL is trying to take a young girl named Blessing from a refugee camp to her family in Boko Haram territory. They’re kidnapped, along with Colt Kingston, and she’s utterly shocked when she discovers that her rescuer is no other than Ranger, the man she fell in love with four years ago, who also rejected her, and she still can’t forget. They run for their life, and during their escape, Ranger gets severely injured, and Noemi has to do everything in her to take them to a place where he can get the medical attention he needs, without claiming too much attention. Even posing as husband and wife, yes. But things get complicated when she arrives to her uncle’s town and discovers her uncle is the King of the Tribe, and is very disappointed that her sister’s only daughter didn’t get married by their traditional ceremony and furthermore asks them to get married by the traditional Nigerian wedding. Things couldn’t worse, but oh yes, they can. It seems like Noemi only brings bad things to those around her, so she’ll have to let Ranger go if she wants to keep him safe. Susan May Warren crafts a magnificent story line and brings the characters to life in a captivating story in the middle of Nigeria. Two totally different settings -Alaska and Africa- that only an expert can manage to portray them so vividly in the same book. I loved to read about the traditions and customs of Nigeria, their expressions, everything. The best part of the story were the characters, especially the main ones. Ranger was the ”swooniest” hero. ever: loyal, protective, determined, with a heart of gold. Noemi was also a special gem: her love for others, her kindness, her openness. Yet, they were both flawed and that made them more relatable. They both needed a gentle push toward the One who has the control, who loves us beyond imagination, the only One who never fails us. The secondary characters were also loveable: Blessing, Uncle Efe, Aunt Precious, etc. Also, Tae’s parallel story made it even more interesting, and kept up the intrigue about the danger that she seems to be running away from. I can’t wait for Colt and Tae’s story in the next book now! I loved everything about this book: characters, writing style, plot, everything! I highly recommend it to contemporary and romantic suspense lovers! You’ll fall in love! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the Publisher, but I wasn’t required to write a positive review. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.
