Adopted by Chief Big Wolf and given the name Swift Arrow, George grows from a frightened boy into a skilled warrior. He masters the bow and arrow, learns to swim treacherous waters, and proves himself in the dangerous "trial by knives." Yet despite his success in Indian society-becoming the chief's chosen heir-George never forgets his true identity or his deep longing for home.
