Book Synopsis
For fans of A Discovery of Witches, this taut, steamy final installment of The Council Trilogy follows Olivia as she attempts to keep an old nemesis from seizing control of the White House through dark magic--and to keep her loved ones alive. In this third and final installment of The Council Trilogy, political consultant Olivia Shepherd has scarcely had time to unpack after returning home from a harrowing assignment overseas when she's offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: help elect a woman president. Knowing the assignment will put her squarely in the path of an old nemesis, Olivia is resolved to refuse--until she learns the stakes are much higher than they seem. Reunited with William, Josef, and the rest of her inner circle, Olivia soon learns that her opponent's use of ancient, dark magic to capture the White House is threatening the very fabric of the universe. But it's only when her father falls victim to an unspeakable attack that she realizes she must put an end to Stoner Halbert once and for all. With no time to spare, Olivia assembles an elite supernatural advance team and sets off on the campaign trail. Along the way, she encounters a new mentor, family she never knew existed, and a band of deadly supernatural mercenaries she thought she'd left behind. Meanwhile, politics take a deadly turn inside the Council--making Olivia wonder if everyone in her inner circle, including her, will survive this trial.Review Quotes
"A mile-a-minute supernatural thriller set in the arena of presidential politics . . . Davis combines the realms of magic and American politics to create a fun, sometimes-surreal effect."--Kirkus Reviews ". . . [A] spectacularly intense and wholly engrossing race to the White House. Crisp and immersive writing perfectly walks the tightrope of magical realism and real-world politicking, from werewolves and demagogues to propaganda and betrayal. . . . a smart, fast-moving tale that rewards both fans of urban fantasy and readers looking for timely, thoughtful fiction."--Readers' Favorite, 5-star review "In The Campaign, the final book in The Council Trilogy, Evette Davis delivers a smart, fast-paced urban fantasy that's as much about political warfare as it is about personal reckoning. . . . Davis never forgets to make room for sharp dialogue, dry humor, or the surreal nature of blending campaign stops with ancient rituals."--Independent Book Review "Davis skillfully intertwines real-world bureaucratic maliciousness with fantasy politics, a strong female protagonist, and creatures that can influence the fate of the world--and fans will relish the luscious fantasy trappings that populate this sprawling story . . . Davis's enticing combo of courage, sorcery, and found family makes this an insightful and fun escape."--BookLife Reviews "The prose is elegant and approachable. . . . Building toward an engaging showdown, The Campaign is an exciting paranormal novel in which dark magic and political manipulations intertwine."--Foreword Reviews "In The Campaign, Evette Davis brings a satisfying close to The Council Trilogy. Witchcraft, politics, and romance mingle in an exciting modern fantasy."--IndieReader
Praise for The Gift: Book 2 "A thrilling global mystery ... In the fantastical thriller The Gift, a woman in a rich paranormal world works to understand her mother's death."--Foreword "Sharp, pacing, engaging dialogue ... Davis balances supernatural intrigue with wry humor and emotional depth, making The Gift an easy recommendation."--Independent Book Review "The Gift is a goldmine of contemporary relevance as it tackles the dynamics of hierarchical power, corruption, and family betrayals with a sharp, feminist lens. ... Davis's ability to balance these weighty themes through a fast-paced Gothic drama ensures the novel remains entertaining while also deeply thought-provoking."--BookLife, Editor's Pick "Love triangles (or squares) can be hit or miss, but Davis approaches it by linking the love interests to different parts of Olivia's identity: the half-human, the half-witch, and the woman. ... The enemies-to-lovers banter [Olivia and Josef] develop in Serbia is electrifying ... This passion and 'will they, won't they' energy in their relationship stems from the evocative writing. Davis's prose helps readers imagine what Olivia and her friends are facing, as well as the stakes in their personal relationships."--Indie Reader
"...an immersive adventure filled with romance and supernatural intrigue from cover to cover. Davis's vibrant world is brimming with diverse and compelling characters... a captivating read that left me eagerly anticipating the next installment, and I'd certainly recommend it to fantasy fans seeking a new accomplished author."--Readers Favorite, 5 STARS
Praise for The Others: Book 1 "Her knowledge of the fantasy genre is evident, as she skillfully weaves fantastical elements with politics, society, and history. The result is a love letter to San Francisco and fantasy--a city where the culture thrives and hides a darker and more mysterious underbelly. ... Evette Davis's The Others showcases her deep passion for storytelling and the enchanting world of the supernatural."--IndieReader "A rollicking supernatural jaunt through time that leaps out of the famous San Francisco fog and right onto our latest news pages. Davis combines her inside knowledge of Bay Area politics with a gripping tale of vampires and shape-shifters that leaves us never quite looking at the city the same way again."--David Callaway, former Editor-in-Chief, USA Today ". . . a paranormal romance and thriller for the intelligent reader. It has it all: political issues, social issues, family issues, witches, vampires, demons, time-walkers, fairies, werewolves, empaths, romance, violence, danger, and espionage. Davis does a laudable job by weaving an intricate storyline around a well-developed, blossoming romance. She ties storylines together and introduces backstories to explain complicated characters. Moreover, the protagonist is extremely likable and easy to relate to. This may have been a paranormal book, but I found her story to be motivational. Who hasn't wanted to turn their back on the world and throw in the towel? When Olivia begins her training sessions to get her life back on track, the book becomes nearly therapeutic."--Rebecca Skane, book reviewer at Seacoastonline.com
