About the Book
"A collection of poems by Noah Warren"--Book Synopsis
The Complete Stories announces its desire and its lie in the title; this is a book of shatter and loss. In his second collection, Noah Warren--previously selected by Carl Phillips for the Yale Series of Younger Poets--unravels histories both personal and public, picking apart their ugliness, beauty, and irreducible singularity. Clothed in broken forms, these poems of grieving and tentative joy ask finally how we can go forward with our own mottled pasts, into the futures we can't predict but for which we must bear responsibility.Review Quotes
"The Destroyer in the Glass impresses at once with its wedding of intellect, heart, sly humor, and formal dexterity, all in the service of negotiating those moments when an impulse toward communion with others competes with an instinct for a more isolated self. The poems both examine and embody the nexus of joy and sorrow, of certainty and confusion, without which there'd be none of the restlessness that makes us uniquely human. Warren's vision is a generous one indeed--and itself a gift."--Yale Series of Younger Poets prize, Carl Phillips, 2015 "The poems are lithe and fluid, rhythmic and pointed... Warren offers a raw and piercing vision."--Publishers Weekly "This book interrogates the mysteries of self and other in a quest for empathy, that most elusive of moral values and perhaps the one most reliant on the poet's powers of imagination."--SCOUT "In his debut poetry collection The Destroyer in the Glass, Noah Warren displays an uncanny calm in the face of the unknowable."--Chapter 16
