The Jumble - by Avi Steinberg (Hardcover)

Book Synopsis

A pawsome story about doggos, kiddos, and one hilarious mix-up! In a wacky twist of events, a human child and a feisty dog switch places for the day in this laugh-out-loud picture book perfect for fans of Katie Weaver and Ryan T. Higgins.

When a dog-walker leading a pack of pooches runs into a teacher leading a caboodle of kids, everyone gets tangled up in the jumble, and a shy boy named George accidentally switches places with a furry pup named Romper.

At first, it seems like not much is different. In school and at the dog park, there's snack time, playtime, and lots of opportunity to learn new tricks. George likes running around outside. Romper likes sniffing everything inside. When day's end comes, will they swap back, or stay jumbled forever?

Review Quotes

"Super silly and ceaselessly witty." --Kirkus

"A morning walk gone sideways is the setup for this cheery identity-swap comedy from New Yorker contributor Steinberg (A Story No One Has Ever Heard Before)...Mock-reportorial text and crisp linework play the jokes with a straight face as the two protagonists appear in full color amid desaturated backgrounds and characters...Cutting both ways, each situation recognizes the pattern and reveals just how far out of water these fish are, until a second jumble eventually sees George and Romper back amid their own. It's an extended farce that trusts its audience to be in on the joke." --Publishers Weekly

"In a hilariously madcap story, dogs and kids swap places after an unexpectedly impactful walk through the park...Accidents, oblivious adults, and stinky dog farts practically guarantee easy laughs from an elementary audience." -School Library Journal
