A chaotic tale!
The Librarians by Sherry Thomas is a chaotic story. There are so many characters and plot lines that it is hard to keep them all straight. The story was difficult to engage with or enjoy. While the library work was accurately represented down to the smallest of details, it was boring to read about. It seemed that everything the author had learned about working in a library was crammed into the story. I did not understand why the author chose to introduce the characters by providing their name, height, gender, and race (and we really did not need to know their shoe size). The point of view switched between characters. It was frustrating when the POV would switch in the middle of the chapter or in the middle of a scene. Plus, thanks to the constant switching of the POV, the plot is not linear (a person needs a whiteboard to keep track of all the details, people, and the timeline). The number of connections between the characters is unrealistic. The pacing was languid (I saw snails waving as they zipped by me). The whodunit was convoluted and odd. After the reveal, I did not think the story would ever end. It seems that every character needed a happy ending. I found The Librarians to be more of a romance than a mystery. The Librarians is a clunky story that lacked cohesion (I would call it a hodge podge). My migraine and I were thrilled to reach the end of The Librarians.
