The Wicker Man - by Robin Hardy & Anthony Shaffer (Paperback)

Book Synopsis

Somewhere off the harsh Scottish coast sits the remote island of Summerisle. This beautiful, if isolated, paradise is a place of strange customs and deep secrets, secrets that Sergeant Neil Howie hopes to untangle when he lands there, summoned by an anonymous letter requesting his aid in the search for a missing little girl.

Howie, a deeply religious man, soon finds himself immersed in a pagan culture he cannot comprehend, which is by turns mystical, sensual, and even violent. On the eve of May Day, Howie realizes he is a pawn in an elaborate ritual--and party to a terrifying and thrilling clash between ideas and beliefs.

Originally released in the U.S. in 1979, the film version of The Wicker Man has become a true cult favorite across the world and was recreated for a new audience with the 2006 feature film starring Nicolas Cage. This novel, first published in 1978, evokes the chilling essence of the cinema classic.
