Vreeland - by Chad Sell (Hardcover)

Book Synopsis

Award-winning creator Chad Sell's adult graphic memoir debut is a powerful exploration of the passage of time, recounting the years in which he cared for his aging grandparents.

Chad has a lot he needs to figure out. His plans after college, his cartooning career, his love life. And, now, what to do about his grandparents...

Ruth and Richard have lived in their country home off Vreeland Road all his life. But as time's gone on, they can't maintain the property anymore...They can barely take care of themselves, even if they refuse to admit that. So Chad undertakes a secret mission, showing up every day to help out, coming up with awkward excuses to explain his frequent appearances.

Somewhere in all those visits, something takes root--a closeness that will carry them through joy, heartbreak, and laughter--a closeness that will persist long after Chad's time at Vreeland comes to an end.

Vreeland is a clear-eyed, deeply tender account of the passage of time, and what it means to be someone's caretaker when you haven't figured out how to take care of yourself.
