Color-coated models are described as slightly drier with shortened sustain and a more focused attack. Other designs vary by model, with sustain ranging from medium to long depending on the cymbal’s design.
Some 18" cymbals use a thinner profile or a wider bow area so they produce a pronounced crash accent while retaining enough bow for ride definition — allowing one cymbal to work as both a crash and a light ride.
