Figure heights vary widely, from about 1.3 inches at the smallest up to roughly 11 inches for large collectibles. Common commercial sizes include small mini-figures, roughly 4-inch (1:18) figures, and larger 6–6.5 inch and 11-inch collectible figures.
Articulation ranges from no moving parts (static figures) to highly articulated action figures. Many poseable figures offer 20 or more points of articulation, with some examples reaching about 23 points for advanced posing and display.
Most figures are made from molded plastics; collectible lines sometimes use vinyl for stylized or limited-edition figures.
Figures are sold in a variety of formats, including window-display boxes, blister cards, and special collectible packaging such as metal lunchbox-style tins.
Certain figure lines are designed for customization, offering interchangeable parts (heads, hands, accessories) and consistent scaling so pieces can be swapped between characters in the same line.
