Many highlight powders are described as buildable—ranging from sheer-to-buildable—for a subtle to stronger payoff. Some formulas are marketed with higher pigment density for more intense color and shimmer.

Highlight products are usually sold as pressed powders or loose powder formats; some formulas use a crèmeto-powder or bouncy texture that blends down to a powderlike finish.

Formulas often include skin-benefit ingredients such as Vitamin E, organic jojoba oil and grapeseed oil, along with mica for shimmer and plant butters like mango, shea or almond butter in some blends.

Apply highlight powder with a small brush or your fingers to face high points—cheekbones, the brow bone and the cupid’s bow. Some formulas also recommend using on collarbones or shoulders for extra glow.
