Most picture hooks use adhesive strips and require no nails or tools: press the adhesive hook to a clean surface to install, and remove adhesive types by holding the top of the strip and pulling straight down to stretch it off. Clean the mounting area with rubbing alcohol to remove dust and grime, avoid mounting on damp or dirty surfaces, and keep indoor temperatures within the product range (typically 50°F to 105°F). If the wall was recently painted, wait seven days before attaching adhesive hooks to ensure the paint is fully cured.

Hardened-steel drywall claw hangers are designed to lock into drywall and support heavier items without studs. Variety packs often include claw hangers rated up to 45 or 65 pounds, making them suitable for large mirrors and heavy frames.

Many adhesive hooks can be reused if you replace their adhesive strips. To reuse, remove the old strip and apply the manufacturer’s replacement or refill strips designed for that hook system.
