They’re designed for many smooth finished surfaces, commonly listing painted walls, finished wood, painted concrete/cinder block, laminate, glass, metal and tiles as compatible.

Most are removed by pulling the adhesive strip straight down, which releases cleanly without holes or residue. Many hooks can be reused if you replace the adhesive strips (sold separately for some products).

Clean the surface with rubbing alcohol, allow freshly painted surfaces to cure (many listings advise waiting seven days after painting), and follow the product’s indoor temperature guidelines before applying adhesive strips.

Drywall claw hangers use hardened steel claws that lock into drywall and are rated up to about 15 lb. Adhesive-strip picture hangers rely on adhesive strips, remove cleanly without damage, and are typically rated for lower weights (for example 8 lb or less in the listings).

Most listings state an indoor application temperature range of about 50 to 105 °F for proper bonding; one listing notes an indoor limit up to 155 °F.
