Outer sleeves are typically made from polyethylene or polypropylene. Inner (record) sleeves are usually high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or paper lined with a soft poly lining.
Common options include small packs such as 50- or 100-count, and larger bulk packs such as 1,000-count for bigger collections.
Many outer and inner sleeves are described as 3 mil thick across the available options.
Look for anti-static properties to reduce dust attraction, acid-free or inert construction to prevent label discoloration, and sleeve designs that block dirt and scratches.
Many outer sleeves are made slightly larger so the same sleeve size can fit single records, double-disc sets, heavyweight 180–200g pressings, and gatefold jackets.
Archival inner sleeves often use 3-ply non-scratching HDPE or poly-lined paper, provide anti-static benefits, resist mold and mildew, and are labeled acid-free to help prevent vinyl or label deterioration.
Outer sleeves are often slightly larger than the record jacket—commonly around 12.75" × 12.75"—to accommodate jackets and gatefolds. Standard inner or record-sized sleeves are typically listed at about 12" × 12".
