For cutting-board mineral oil: wash and fully dry the wood, apply oil with a clean cloth, let it soak for about 2–3 minutes, then wipe off excess. Routine maintenance is about once a month; for new items apply daily during the first week and weekly for the rest of the first month. For aerosol furniture sprays: shake well, spray onto a cloth (or hold 6–8 inches from the surface) and wipe the surface.

Wood conditioners and oils moisturize and protect wood, help restore and revitalize appearance, and can restore shine. Many spray formulas leave a noticeable sheen without feeling overly oily.

Some furniture spray formulas explicitly advise against use on unfinished wood and unfinished leather. By contrast, cutting-board mineral oils are intended for finished kitchen wood items such as cutting boards, butcher blocks and utensils.

Tools: a clean cloth and, for sprays, the product can be sprayed onto a cloth or directly from the can at the recommended distance. Steps: wash and fully dry the wood first; for mineral oil, apply with a clean cloth and allow it to soak a few minutes before wiping off; for aerosols, shake the can, spray onto a cloth (or hold 6–8 inches from the surface) and wipe.

Mineral‑oil treatments focus mainly on conditioning and protecting wood (for example, treating cutting boards). Aerosol cleaner‑polish sprays typically combine cleaning, polishing and conditioning—removing dust and fingerprints and leaving a polished finish on sealed furniture surfaces.
