In 1982, Turtle Fur left its mark on winter with the invention of the first fleece neck warmer, dubbed The Turtle’s Neck®. Designed by Millie Merrill in the basement of a children’s apparel store in Stowe, Vermont, its creation was a shift in winter accessories that proves successful to this day. The invention of the Original Turtle's Neck freed once scarf-bound skiers from their tangled and burdensome accessories. This invention also led her to found Turtle Fur, with headquarters in Morrisville, Vermont. Since then, Turtle Fur has been a leading outdoor headwear and accessories brand in the outdoor, snow sports, and lifestyle markets. From The Neck was born The Hat, from The Hat; many more hats. Their small but mighty team, still headquartered in Vermont, oversees all aspects of the business; product design, sales and distribution, marketing, sourcing and production – just to name a few. Their global supply chain allows them to seek new and sustainable fabrics year after year, while maintaining the levels of quality and comfort that Turtle Fur has always been known for. From their fleece roots to all the products they make today, Turtle Fur is the iconic Vermont brand holding true to their pillars of adventure, community, comfort, and quality.
