Q: Can I use the solo fuel cans in the fire pit

submitted by CarK - 7 months ago
  • A: Hello! No, we do not recommend using the fuel cans inside of the Bonfire fire pit because the grate is domed so it’s not stable. It also won't put out much warmth doing so. Logs or pellets are best. The fuel cans are geared to our smaller tabletop fire pits.

Q: Will the bottom of the fire pit leave a burn mark on the wood deck or trex decking?

submitted by Jweng - 2 years ago
  • A: If using your fire pit on a wood or trex deck we recommend purchasing the Bonfire Stand that goes underneath the fire pit. When paired with the Stand, you can use our fire pits on a wooden deck safely. The very bottom rim of your Solo Stove is actually the coolest part of the unit, so a little insulation between your Solo and the surface it will rest on goes a long way. You can find more information on the Stand and the surfaces it can be placed on here: https://blog.solostove.com/when-to-use-a-fire-pit-stand/ We also offer a spark arresting shield for extra protection against popping embers that might find their way in places they don’t belong. Using the fire pit with the Stand lifts the fire pit 2.75" off the ground and the Stand minimizes heat transfer to the surface below.

Q: Will this fire pit rust?

submitted by Oma - 2 months ago
  • A: Our fire pits are made of very durable stainless steel and are considered rust resistant, but not rust proof. Due to extremely high temperatures, discoloration of the fire pit may occur. This is called patina and is considered normal. Prolonged exposure to moisture may result in increased staining and/or rusting. Due to extremely hight temperatures inside, the fire pit may shows signs of staining or rust. This is normal and will not affect normal use on any Solo Stove products, or be covered by the lifetime performance warranty.

Q: Does this come with the stand ring that goes under the outside of the Solo?

submitted by ktgsmokey - 7 months ago
  • A: Hello! This particular one is just the fire pit by itself. Does not include the stand.

Q: Does a cover/lid come with it?

submitted by Doug from New England - 8 months ago
  • A: Hello, neither the lid nor the shelter comes with this item. This is just for the Bonfire fire pit itself. It does come with a carry case.

Q: Can I burn wood pellets in this stove?

submitted by JK - 9 months ago
  • A: Yes you can use pellets with the Solo Stove fire pits. When using pellets we recommend purchasing the Pellet Adapter (sold separately on the Solo Stove website).

Q: Can this be inserted into a brick fire pit?

submitted by Savvy1 - 9 months ago
  • A: Yes, you can place the Bonfire in an existing brick fire pit. Just 3 or more inches of space around the exterior wall of the Solo Stove and any ring or surround will give plenty of airflow to your fire so you can keep creating good moments.

Q: Can this safely be used on a covered patio?

submitted by targetKA - 10 months ago
  • A: When choosing an area to enjoy your nightly wind-down, we recommend giving at least 15-20 feet of clearance between your fire pit and any coverings above it. We also recommend keeping at least 6 feet between your fire pit and any large structure-- like your house, railings, or trees. Considering safety is important, but so is giving thought to your peace of mind. Heat sensitive or easily tarnished materials may require additional clearance to maintain a clean finish. Crafting a safe space now will let you focus on what’s important later.

Q: Can you put it directly on the grass? Will it burn the grass?

submitted by Roedemann - 1 year ago
  • A: Using the fire pit with the Stand lifts the fire pit 2.75" off the ground and the Stand minimizes heat transfer to the surface below. If the fire pit has been left for an extended amount of time with the grass not being exposed to sunlight, it will cause the grass to die/discolor in that area. We recommend using a Stand when placing your fire pit on grass to provide enough space around the fire pit’s lower vent holes and to protect the health of your lawn. If your grass is tall and/or thick, it is possible your grass will still die even if using the Stand with your Solo Stove.

Q: Can I use any kind of wood?

submitted by A - 2 years ago
  • A: The perfect smokeless flame requires quality, dry fuel. Kiln-dried hardwoods such as oak, or maple have a low moisture content, so they’ll burn at a higher temperature and give your flames a smooth secondary burn effect.

We love our bonfire even more than expected! The smoke really is minimal, it’s easy to get started, and feels safe and contained for backyard use. We’ve been using it at least once a weekend since we bought it, and I imagine we will use it all year round. Such a great purchase. We got a surround as well and it has given us total peace of mind with our kids and dog. Great for setting drinks as well.

My new Bonfire lights easier, burns hotter and is so much easier to clean than my old one. The slight raise to the now removable grate makes a huge difference and the removable ash pan eliminates having to lift, move and dump ashes like my old one.

Over Priced! Three burns in and the interior has broken down. Multiple holes inside. The so called fire ring has wilted . No heat from the exterior but when you put a log on make sure you wear gloves. All the heat goes straight up. I did have hair on my arms but not any more. Don't wast money on this named brand product. Im going back to old school pit. dig a hole, drop a ring.

The original design made it difficult to clean ash out of the bottom. I stored it in my RV compartment and was always afraid of a hot ember starting a fire. The new 2. 0 has a removable grill and burn plate that work great.

We have a place on a river and park our RV there for summers. Our new SOLO stove is perfect for evening campfires and always feel it is safe when it’s burned out and the embers are confined!

Only thing can top a Solo Stove is the Solo Stove 2. 0 It burns even cleaner, hotter, taller flame, and easier to clean. Yes you will have two more extra parts to manage, but that is what makes the changes so important. BTW, the warranty is also top notch.

Always wanted a wood fire pit but don’t have a lot of room for it (you can see my old propane fire pit in the background). Got this for Father’s Day and finally had a change to fire it up! This thing is amazing. Easy to use, lightweight, and the perfect addition to my yard! 10/10 recommend! Can’t wait to get some accessories next! The kids are excited for smores

Work Week Decompression

I started with the Ranger pit a couple of years ago and later bought the surround. I eventually stepped up to the Bonfire pit, which takes up no more room than the Ranger, and I could still use the same surround. It's really relaxing to sit out by a fire and decompress after a hectic work week.

Not designed for high altitude use.

As a Combustion Engineer, I have to question whether the Solo Bonfire design is suitable at high altitude use, especially with the spark screen attachment in place. We are at 5,250 feet and get black, sooty smoke except when the fire burns down to a low bed of embers. Even the handles on the screens turn black with soot - and definitely cannot consider cooking anything as it will come out covered in soot. The design does not support the lower oxygen content of high altitude air. Disappointing, to say the least.
