Q: what are the best batteries to use with these? I'm currently using a rechargeable battery, they only last about 1.5 hrs. Is there a certain type that may last longer?

A: Try Pansonic Eneloops if you're going to use rechargeables. High draw device like this is going to chew through rechargables. "Lithium" AAs instead of alkalines would also hold up far better.

A: We reccomend using brand new duracell or energizer batteries. We also have rechargeable heated socks available.

Nice & hot sox, but tight battery case
I purchased these prior to a winter photo excursion to Yellowstone NP (which I have yet to take). I tested them after receipt and they did get very warm, which was great. My disappointment was that the rechargeable batteries (from Amazon) that I put in them were a bit too big for the battery case and made it so that the cover wouldn't snap shut correctly. When I put non-rechargeable Duracell batteries in, they were snug but the cover would close. Apparently, the inexpensive rechargeables that I bought are slightly wider than they should be; however, it would be nice if there was more room in the case so it didn't feel like I was forcing the batteries into place. Maybe that is why these were "open box."

Our AA-battery heated socks are limited to a single temp setting while our 5-Volt socks have more variety in heat settings and are reported to be warmer than the AA socks. Do not work
I used 3 fresh batteries and the socks did not heat up. I pushed in the little red button, the red light came on, but no heat. Then the red light went out. Once I unplugged the socks from the battery pack the red light would come on again. As soon as I plugged the socks back in to the battery pack the red light went off again. They must be defective.

A must have for raynauds
If you suffer from raynauds, these socks are a must have. They are relatively cheap, and keep your toes warm where ever you go, or don't go.

Batteries are hard to get out.
The batteries are difficult to get out of the box when you need to change them out. I found I neeed a knife to pry out the first one and once that one was out, the rest came out easier. socks themselves are nice

Worth trying!
I didn't want to deal with the hassle of recharging the batteries, so I picked these socks. It's a lot easier for me to buy a pack of AA batteries when I need them. They do a good job keeing my feet warm.
