Removed them and placed a nail in furniture slider at each corner. Hight is now perfect. No evidence of structural damage.(use it as a foot rest only, not a bench)

The fabric on the right side isn't smooth, just a little wrinkled. However, I'm 81 and it took me 30 minutes to get it out of the box, so even though it's not quite perfect I'll keep it. It will probably outlive me.
