Engaging Read with Escalating Tension
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed the suspense, the escalating tension and the relationships between the characters. Secure Watch is a team that cares for each other and for being thorough and professional in their jobs. When they are hired for a tech conference and a murder occurs, all hands are on deck to figure out what happened and why. Derek Benjamin is the most likely suspect but Alayah is invested in proving his innocence and convinces her team to investigate and find the real killer before an innocent victim is railroaded. The chemistry between Alayah and Derek is a slow simmer and then becomes a rolling boil as they accept each other and discover an attraction that they weren’t expecting. The mystery almost takes second place to the developing relationship between the two, but the quest to find a killer is still a main part of the plot. The plot is fast-paced and riveting with multiple suspects and red herrings along with the clues. The final confrontation with the villain has bullet-fast action with the revelation of multiple surprises. I enjoyed the edgy plot, the dynamics of the characters and the way the author created a character with a disability that I had never heard of before, so I also felt well informed as I read. This was an entertaining and engaging read and convinced me to look for and read the previous books in the series since this one was so good. With themes of greed, corruption and selflessness, this quick read is a winner for me and I highly recommend it. I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and all opinions expressed are my own.
