Q: Are they in natural casing

submitted by Kathy - 27 days ago
  • A: Hi there. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us. Please be informed that this Hebrew National Beef Franks contains no natural casing and are cooked in a cellulose casing that is removed prior to final packaging. We also make a collagen casing frank that is available in delis. This casing is made from beef protein. We hope this helps. Thank you for the review.

Q: Do these hotdogs contain nitrates?

submitted by MarFar - 8 months ago
  • A: Hi there, thank you for reaching out to us with your question about Hebrew National Beef Franks. We'd like you to know that this product contains sodium nitrite. And if Nitrates are present in the any product, it will be called on the label. Sodium Nitrite is a salt that is used to cure meats like ham, bacon and hot dogs. Nitrite serves a vital function: it blocks the growth of botulism-causing bacteria and prevents spoilage. Cured meats cannot be produced without sodium nitrite. It gives cured meats their characteristic color and flavor; a product like ham gets its color from nitrite. Without nitrite, product shelf life would also be shortened substantially. The specific amount of Sodium Nitrite in our formulation is exclusive to that product. The amount present dissipates during the cooking process, so the level in the final product is less. We do not test the final product for nitrite levels, however, all products are below the legal limit of 200 ppm. Sodium nitrate - a "cousin" of nitrite is also approved for use. Nitrates, however, cannot be used in bacon or in food designed for infants or toddlers. Thanks again and have a great day.

We appreciate you reaching out and will be sure to share your inquiry with our team. Thanks again and have a great day.

Used to be amazing. Bland and textureless now.

The recipe for these has changed sometime in the last year or two, and they are awful. Soy Protein is now a prominent ingredient. When I cooked them a month ago, I noticed that they were mealy and lacked the usual amount of flavor that I've loved over the decades. Today when I was making them again, a friend who I've been making them for, for years, said the last time I made them, they made her sick. She can't have soy protein, and sure enough when we checked the ingredients. This is a shame. When "cheaper" brands are actually moving away from soy and other fillers, this supposedly premium product is being made cheaper. I have purchased my last package of Hebrew National, and it makes me sad.

    (no review title)

Used to be my absolute favorite brand, but now they are also participating in shrinkflation. Last time I purchased the brand, I got 7 hot dogs per pack. This time around, only 6. Still cost the same amount. Would have thought that a company that prides itself on quality products would not have stooped to the level of so many brands on the market.

    High quality hot dog

Hebrew National beef franks is the only hot dog brand I eat. The Westbury store has decided not to carry this brand?? However, the other stores are still carrying the brand. Not a happy camper.

Use to be my favorite, now nauseating

August 2026 and I tried to eat my favorite hot dogs. I nearly gagged and felt nauseated. I don't know what you did but something has changed. There's a different aroma and an after taste. Not like it went bad, but like a recipe change. I detected something slightly sweet and floral. Gross. I was considering going vegan, and this helps push me that way. They went into the trash.

    Dissatisfied

Target needs to teach their shoppers that pull our items to look for the expiration dates. I just picked up two packages of hotdog and they expired in May. Now I have to go back to the store waste gas waste time to get ones that have not expired. This was an order I did online and a pick up. We love these hotdog just not an expiration date that expired two months ago

    What happened

I loved these over the Nathan's but now they are basically the same. Granted it's been over a decade since I have had hot dogs but these used to be plump and juicy without that weird coating Nathan's has but now they have the weird coating.

Fantastic hotdogs but completely frustrated as to why only 7 dogs in a package when absolutely every bun dealer sells in packages of 8. Makes no sense unless they also own bun dealers
