Description

About the Book

A classic Christian guide that teaches believers how to approach God with confidence and persistence. Drawing from Scripture, it explains praying "to God," praying in Christ's name, relying on the Holy Spirit, overcoming hindrances, and seeking personal and corporate renewal through prayer.

Book Synopsis

Rooted in Scripture and marked by pastoral urgency, How to Pray: A Timeless Guide for Approaching God calls believers to make prayer the central work of their spiritual lives. It shows how to pray with power by intentionally entering God's presence, persisting earnestly, and relying on the Holy Spirit. Readers learn what it means to pray in Christ's name, how obedience and sincerity shape prayer, and how to discern God's will through His Word. Practical chapters explore thanksgiving, common obstacles, and sustainable rhythms of prayer, while lifting the reader's vision to prayer's role in spiritual growth, spiritual battle, and the renewal of the church. Emphasizing both private devotion and united prayer, the book invites believers to move beyond hurried petitions into steady, expectant communion with God.

About the Author

Reuben Archer Torrey (1856-1928) is respected as one of the greatest evangelists of modern times. Several years after his graduation from Yale Divinity School, he was selected by D. L. Moody to become the first dean of the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago. Under his direction, Moody Institute became a pattern for Bible Institutes around the world. Dr. Torrey spent the years of 1903-1905 in worldwide revival campaigns, winning thousands of souls to Jesus Christ. He continued worldwide crusades for the next fifteen years while he served as the dean of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles and pastored the Church of the Open Door in that city. His straightforward style of evangelism has shown thousands of Christian workers how to become effective soulwinners.
