About the Book

If there was a core lie sabotaging your life, wouldn't you want to know what it is? And wouldn't you want to find the way to be free?

Book Synopsis

If there was a core lie sabotaging your life, wouldn't you want to know what it is?

And wouldn't you want to find the way to be free?

Most of us have been living inside a lie so long it feels like the truth. It has quietly shaped our identity, our relationships, and even how we see God. Until we see it, we'll keep circling the same frustrations, the same shame, the same thoughts of I'll never change. But freedom is possible.

In The Lie You Don't Know You Believe, Jennie Allen pulls back the curtain on the enemy's oldest trick--and shows us how to dismantle it with the spiritual authority we already have in Christ. She guides us through how to:

  • Spot the three core lies everyone believes--and name the one running your life.
  • Trace the moment your lie took root and how the enemy's been using it to keep you stuck.
  • Cut ties with your old narratives so they stop shaping your choices.
  • Challenge lies in real time and replace them with God's truth.

This isn't about behavior modification. This is about transferring your life out of the enemy's kingdom of lies and into the kingdom of light--where joy, peace, and strength aren't fleeting feelings but your everyday reality. Freedom starts here. Take hold of it.

Must Read for Preteens-Adults

As so many struggle with identity, this book is a must read for all readers! This book feels like you are sitting on the couch having girl time or hanging out at the coffee shop talking with a friend. Jennie opens up about the 3 central lies that we all can face, shares common struggles people face with each lie, and helps you identity which one feels like your truth (but is actually a lie disguised as “truth.”) What I appreciate most about this book is that Jennie doesn’t fill our heads with a bunch of knowledge. Instead, she gives bite size action steps on how to identify the lie, uproot the lie, replace it with truth, and how to find community/close friends to do life with you to keep the lie from coming back to ruin your life again and again or to keep you “distracted” from living in your purpose this side of heaven. She reminds us that the enemy is strategic, and so we need to be prepared and strategic as well. I highly recommend this book for Next Gen (preteens and teens) and adults.

A Book to Stop and Sit With

Just finished reading The Lie You Don't Know You Believe and it didn't disappoint. I knew my lie already but Jennie had so many helpful reminders and truths shared. Two of the biggest for me: we have a choice and we need community. I can chose Light or darkness...I want to choose Light! We need each other to work through our lies. Don't do this alone! Jennie gives some great scriptures as well. I found myself stopping and getting out my Bible to read Romans 8, Philippians, and others! Definitely recommend this book and maybe even not in one sitting. Stop and sit with it, don't skim. This isn't a feel good in the moment and forget it in the next, book. This is a way to be free!

Time to Fight the Lies Together

I’m so excited it is finally here! I really love how many resources Jennie Allen provides to go along with her books. She not only writes with her whole heart and God given direction, but she also helps guide you in gathering your friends so you are not reading alone. She creates free study guides to go along with the book and weekly podcast episodes you can follow through with the reading plan she has prepared. My relationship with God and my wisdom have grown so much through Jennie Allen’s other book and podcast, and I know this one will help me continue working through the anxiety and learning/cutting off the lies the enemy constantly tries to swirl around in my head. Time to fight.

A Must Read

Author Jennie Allen pours herself out onto the pages of The Lie You Don't Know You Believe, being open and vulnerable in order to help others who struggle with believing Satan's lie about themselves as she once did. To some degree, that is probably the majority of us at one time or another in our lives. Allen points out that the subtleness of the lie does nothing to lesson its impact on us or the ripples sent out to others. Through the use of lots of Scripture, sage advice from counselors, and personal experience, she gives hope for breaking that impact as well as the ripple effect. The Lie You Don't Know You Believe is a book everyone should have the opportunity to read. As the title implies, you may not be aware of the lie you are believing. Even if you are, you might be accepting it as truth, or feeling there is no way out from under its influence. Allen offers hope in this well-written, thoughtful book. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of this eye-opening book from Thomas Nelson via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Life Changer

I didn’t expect it to feel so personal, but page after page, it was like she was gently uncovering thoughts I didn’t even realize I’d been believing—about my worth, my calling, even about God. She doesn’t shame or preach. Instead, she invites you to slow down and examine the narratives running in the background of your life. What I appreciated most is how practical it is. This isn’t just “feel inspired and move on.” It’s honest, Scripture-rooted, and actually helps you replace lies with truth in a tangible way. I found myself underlining constantly and having to pause just to process. If you’ve ever felt stuck, insecure, or spiritually weary and couldn’t quite name why, this book helps you name it—and then shows you a way forward. It’s both convicting and deeply comforting, and I’m genuinely grateful I read it.

Go pick this book up now

Another great book by Jennie Allen that is a must read. In this book you will find out the three main lies people believe in themselves and what you can do about it. Most people don’t even realize it is a lie because they believed it for so long it felt true. In this book you will learn about which lie you have believed and what you can do about it to step out of the darkness and into the light. If you have felt stuck or thought, I don’t measure up or I am nothing or other lies we tell ourselves this book is for you. Share with a friend who might need this or read it together.

You all need to RUN and buy this book! If you've ever believed something that was a lie, but you've convinced yourself it was true then you need to read this! There are so many lies that Jennie talks about that are accurate, for things that I have been told all my life and have come to believe as truth, only to now realize it was all lies.

Best Read for the Year

’ve read many books on spiritual growth, but Jennie Allen’s The Lie You Don’t Know You Believe hits differently. What I loved most is how she walks you through tracing those lies back to their roots and shows you exactly how to replace them with truth in real-time. It’s not about just 'trying harder' to be better—it’s about a complete shift from the kingdom of lies to the kingdom of light. If you feel stuck, frustrated, or like you’re constantly circling the same old issues, this book is exactly what you need to break the cycle. A must-read for anyone ready to truly step into the freedom we’re promised in Christ!

Fight the lies

Do you have anxiety/depression? Maybe it's triggered by negative thoughts. Maybe there's a lie that has weaved its way so deep into your soul that not only has it become a part of you, but you believe it to be true. In this book Jennie helps us to realize and even speak out loud these lies from Satan himself, to fight them and be set free! We no longer need to feel worthless, helpless or unlovable.

Get ready to feel free!

Another amazing book by Jennie! I started the new year feeling the need to dig deep into who I am. The timing of this book being released was divine and God revealed so much to me. Everything just “clicked” and it feels so freeing to know the lie that filled my thoughts so most of my life. You will learn and grow in your relationship with Jesus! I cannot recommend this book enough.

True Freedom!

Jennie Allen has this amazing ability to be so real and relatable but also lead you straight to the truth in Scripture. A quote from early on in the book..."the terrifying thing about lies we live with. They don't show up with red flags. They show up like truth." Most of the time we don't realize that our thinking is wrong. We have just believed it for so long that we assume it is the truth. Jennie helps us go deeper to the core of our belief about ourselves. Then she gives you hope of what freedom from that lie looks like and then leads you to that freedom. This book helps you process through your thoughts, reminds you of the truth and leads you to the godly way to look at yourself and life. It isn't a quick fix book but a dive deep and get lasting freedom book!

This is a great book!! I had the privilege of reading it early. I am not much of a reader so it says something for me to read a book in a month! A light switch for the soul

Jennie Allen does it again. She lovingly gets into your heart and mind and flips on the light in a dark corner. The lie hidden in the dark is meant to be brought to light so you can see it for what it is: untruth. What a powerful read! It will change you. The perfect book to share with friends. The only thing more powerful than uncovering the lie you don't know you believe is supporting others in doing the same.
