Q: Is there a difference between Imperial and Parkay? My recipe calls for Parkay but I can’t find it, thus I bought Imperial.

submitted by Kathy - 11 days ago
  • A: Hello! Both are margarine-style spreads and work similarly in recipes. The main difference is Parkay contains milk, while Imperial is dairy-free. Parkay contains milk ingredients such as whey and buttermilk. Imperial is made from vegetable oils (like palm and soybean). If you’re okay with a slightly less buttery flavor, Imperial is a fine substitute. Both have similar fat content and calories, so texture and baking performance should be very close. We hope this answers your question!

Q: Why do the ingredients listed on the box in the picture differ from the ones listed in the product page’s ingredients section? For example, whey is listed on the box but not in the page’s ingredients section.

submitted by IckVick - 1 year ago
  • A: Hello. Confirming this product does not contain whey. Target.com image has been updated to reflect this. Apologies for any confusion. Thank you

Baking

Like using this spread for baking and sometimes cooking. Texture is very smooth as butter. It's easy to spread on bread and poultry. Now to the baking part. I have used regular unsalted butter and compare to the Imperial while baking and so far, it's worked. Taste and Flavor are on point. Great package design. Individual wrapping design does its work. it's easy to open and save unused spread.

Don't buy

Not good. This is not butter. It’s canola oil. This will make you gain lots of weight. But real grass fed butter or use avocado oil. This item needs to be shut down and vanquished from this planet.

It has its uses...

First of all there is a difference between spreads and margarine. True margarine is at least 80% fat hence being fine for baking etc. Spreads (Imperia...., Parka...Blue Bonne...etc) are spreads and contain less fat and more water. Out of the spreads this one has the best flavor and I like to use it to grease a pan, add a little butter flavor "oil" to something (pancake batter), and for some reason it's great in mashed potatoes. I love butter, but this has its uses especially when butter is so expensive.

It's margarine, not butter

Margarine is not butter, despite what it looks. like. It is good for making cakes, cookies or anything that butter isn't the main ingredient. Butter is better for frosting, shortbread type cookies or sautéing. I have both in my refrigerator #1 because margarine is cheaper than butter, #2 sometimes you can't tell the difference. #3 the consistency is the same. I can't afford for everything to be made with butter (especially now), and margarine is a good alternative.

It's a no for me

Used this “butter” to make frosting for cupcakes and had to trash the whole batch. It has a weird smell and even worst taste. Would not recommend

Just dont! Pass!

Don’t ever buy this, its very bad for you. It’s vegetable oil and artificial flavors and a bunch of other nastiness. Buy the real thing or a better quality vegan one.

Nope

This “butter” is horrible. It’s always super soft, even if it’s sitting in the fridge. Does NOT work well for baking as the company claims.

Bad after taste

Tried making a dairy free buttercream with this and it curdled and had a horrible chemical after taste. Threw out the whole batch. I’d rather spend more money on a higher quality ingredient.
