Description

LifeStraw, the original ultralight backpacking and travel-friendly “straw” water filter, makes contaminated water safe to drink and helps to prevent most waterborne diseases by removing bacteria (like E.coli), parasites (like Giardia and Cryptosporidium) and microplastics. Drink directly from lakes, rivers and streams or fill a container to use your LifeStraw on the go. The LifeStraw can provide up to 5 years of safe drinking water, with proper use and maintenance, and is rigorously tested to meet protocols established by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and NSF International/ANSI. Your purchase has impact. For every LifeStraw product purchased, a school child in need receives safe water for an entire school year.

Q: Doesn't filter out PFoS /pfas and pharmaceuticals? Can I use it at home to drink out of tap water ?

submitted by Vegan - 3 months ago
  • A: Hello, Thank you for your question. Yes, you can use LifeStraw products with tap water, but the contaminants reduced will depend on the specific product. Outdoor LifeStraw products such as the original straw or Peak Series use a membrane microfilter designed to remove bacteria, parasites, and microplastics from untreated water sources like rivers or lakes. These filters are not designed to remove PFAS, PFOS, PFOA, pharmaceuticals, or other dissolved chemical contaminants. LifeStraw Home products such as the pitchers and dispensers use a two stage filtration system that includes a membrane microfilter and an activated carbon and ion exchange filter. This combination allows the system to reduce chlorine, improve taste and odor, and reduce contaminants such as PFAS (including PFOA and PFOS), certain chemicals, and some pharmaceuticals while also removing bacteria, parasites, and microplastics. If you are planning to filter tap water at home, the LifeStraw Home pitchers or dispensers are the products designed specifically for that purpose. They are built to improve taste and reduce a broader range of chemical contaminants commonly found in municipal drinking water. I hope this helps answer your question. Feel free to reach out if we can be of any additional assistance.

Q: How will I know when it reaches the end of it's efficacy? Is there some kind of alert on the product itself?

submitted by Jen - 1 year ago
  • A: That's a great question! When the filter reaches the end of its life (approximately 1,000 gallons / 4,000 liters), it will stop allowing water to flow through. You’ll notice it becomes extremely hard (or impossible) to draw water through the straw. This is your built-in signal that the filter has reached the end of its usable life.

Q: Do you have to replace the filter?

submitted by Rocker horse - 1 year ago
  • A: The LifeStraw Personal Water Filter has a long-lasting membrane microfilter that can filter up to 4,000 liters (1,000 gallons) of water before it stops working. Unlike some other LifeStraw products, it does not have a replaceable filter—once it reaches capacity, you will need to replace the entire unit.

    Excellent Source Of Drinking Water

Living in AZ, we often hike in the summertime at higher elevations. I never leave home without my Lifestraw filters, just in case things go sideways. There's usually water somewhere near where we hike, but it's quality and safety is questionable at best. With our Lifestraw filters, we can rest assured if we can find water, we can drink it!!

    In an emergency

I didn't know there was a product capable of filtering water so that it is safe and drinkable. I haven't used it, and hope I don't have to. If I do, I have it, it's convenient, and easy to use.

    Straw

I have not used it as yet. It was purchased to use on the Appellation trail. Have it in my backpack now. I have the metal water bottle to0. That I have used. But it adds too much weight. I will use it on camping trips in the vehicle. What very impressed with the bottle.

Hope I never have to use them

I bought a 5 pack to have in my vehicles and at home for use in case of emergency. As I have not experienced any yet I haven't used them. They were packed well and I really like the hard carry case for the one in my car.

    Great Product/ Admirable Company

While I haven't yet had occasion to use my straw myself, I know others who have and who universally applaud its effectiveness. It's also wonderful that the company is both environmentally and socially responsible! I gave 7 as holiday gifts and all the recipients were thrilled!

    Bought for Emergency Kits

We purchased the LifeStraws for our Grandchildren for their emergency kits. We just had two added for a total of 7. They each have a LifeStraw. We believe in being ready in case of a grid failure or disaster. Thank you for providing drinkable water to those who need it worldwide 🌷

    Amazing

I took a Lifestraw with me while I went backcountry camping in West Virginia. Honestly, this product is way under priced for what it is. It can literally save your life. I drank from multiple streams after I ran out of water and made it out of the woods safe.

This classic device replaces one I've had for a while and broke. The reason it received only four stars is I've not used it. I am confident it will function.
