Review Quotes
Starred. A smartly designed, educational, manipulative board book that works at the higher end of the usual demographic for this format. The left-hand page introduces the truck by name. It also includes a brief description of the truck, a diagram that labels key components (bumper, wheel, cab, exhaust), and a guiding question. The questions range from factual knowledge ("What color is this garbage truck?") to imaginative play ("What do you think this semi has inside?"). The shape of the tracks emulates the movement of the featured vehicle. The semitruck turns in a wide curve. The monster truck rides along a figure-eight race course. The garbage truck makes a circuit around a suburban neighborhood. With bold, very colorful illustrations and extremely sturdy pages, the book works for sibling story hours, first books on vehicles, or even primary units on neighborhoods. -
VERDICT: A thoughtful and deeply engaging use of format, content, and information, this is a must-add to the -primary shelves.
