Book Synopsis

Malcolm Kyzer, principal of Cochran High School in Georgia, had no idea the turn his life would take when he hired Ida Reynolds as a teacher, sight unseen. Their budding romance was shaken with an unplanned separation, compliments of a disapproving boss. Malcolm and Ida soon made a moonlit sacred promise to marry before relocating miles apart to look for work. The mail train, as crucial to the country in 1920 as the internet is today, became vital to this young couple as they shared their daily lives, their pasts, and their hopes for the future through frequent handwritten letters. Despite the distance, the modesty of the time, and occasional miscommunication, their love continued to blossom through good times and bad, sickness and health. More than seven hundred century-old letters found tucked away in an attic chronicle the true story of a beautiful and vulnerable 1920s Southern romance in Malcom and Ida.
