Millie's Magic Table - by Nicole Conner (Paperback)

About the Book

Book Synopsis

At home, her grandmother called her Malalai. At her new school, in a new country, everyone calls her Millie - it's easier to say.

But the halls are loud, the games are strange, the words move too fast, and Millie's own words feel stuck inside her. More than anything, she misses home: warm bread, sweet tea, and the songs that once hummed her to sleep.

Then Millie remembers something her grandmother told her: when your heart feels heavy, set a table, and invite the ones who help you carry it. So she closes her eyes - and a magic table appears.

One by one, her guests arrive: her grandmother carrying warm bread; Courage, an old friend; even Loneliness, curled up like a cat beneath the table. Finally, a robin, who rests a hand on her shoulder and says, 'You don't have to be perfect. You only have to be you.'

The next day, Millie is ready to offer one small thing - a purple crayon, and a single word - and finds that it is enough. Tender and reassuring, Millie's Magic Table is a beautiful story about belonging, big feelings, and carrying home inside you. It gently shows children that sadness and worry are visitors, not who they are - and that even when you don't have all the words yet, you have everything you need to begin.
