Inexpensive, but you get what you paid for
The design and quality of this unit is the same as the indoor volume control models, which I have previously used successfully. Screw-down wire attachment on the top of the circuit board for input, and screw-downs on the bottom for output to speakers. I could not get sound out of one of the channels. After troubleshooting the wiring and changing the resistance fusing, neither channel worked. It is now in a box and I bought a better quality volume controller elsewhere that worked the first time. Unfortunate.

Good but not perfect
Internal components appear sold in design and part quality. confusingly the outer case is easy to break, thin plastic. The two upper 2 screws in particular broke the front plastic housing case when we hand tightened them on two different units we bought. We knew from other reviews on the product to be careful but we still ended up breaking them. Hint - Use a longer screw with a small rubber washer that seals the unit on the outside of the cover as it is tightened. It is the front part of the housing unit the breaks, the back side is fine. the screws a prominent but this works if the out housing front cover breaks during installation.

Easy to Install
Quite easy to install if you already know what wire are coming into the box first. Once I had all 8 wires identified, it was a simple job to put the correct wires in the right sequence.

I have four of them. The switch itself is great and does a decent job of matching impedance. HOWEVER the case it comes in does a pretty horrible job keeping that switch protected. Found out the hard way that it is SUPER EASY to over torque a screw and crack the case rendering it useless outdoors. Also found out that some don't crack right away. I have three outside that are somewhat covered but can get wet tf the rain is blown in. It was and all three cases leaked. Within 5 days the switches no longer functioned. I am glad they were relatively cheap but I won't buy anymore.

Poor design - water resistance and case
The screws broke the faceplate when tightened by hand. No longer rain proof. "C" shaped faceplate gasket is too thin and will not stay in place when installing the faceplate. Poor design.

Don't bother. I've had two of these now and both failed. The first one lasted for 2 years. This time only one. as other reviews mention, the weather seal is a joke and impossible to properly install. Not that it mattered, as mine is under a deck so not exposed to the elements. Nevertheless, like the first one, this one fried itself. Fortunately my receiver went into protection mode. The unit itself got burning hot and stunk like cooked electronics. I'm done trying these.

One channel not working
After hook up, only one channel would work. Did all the required troubleshooting and then it changed as I was checking connections and the channel that originally was working stopped working and the channel that was originally not working started working. To use this unit what I ended up doing was switching the input to mono and running both speakers off the one channel that remained working.
