A: Hello Mama - Thank you for your interest on - Neoprene Mini Backpack. The water repellent comes from adding chemical treatment to the fabric, rather than the fabric material alone. DWR is a chemical surface treatment that lowers surface tension, causing water to bead and roll off rather than soaking in. Hope this information helps. Happy shopping! - Rose

My keys or other small items can fit in the smaller zipped outter pocket and my cell phone and other things can fit in the backpack itself.
