A: Yes. The PLCMDVR49 can be set so the screen stays off while driving, but it will automatically turn on when you shift into reverse to show the backup camera. It also continues recording in the background even when the screen is off, and you can review recordings anytime through playback mode or by removing the memory card.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Item arrived not in original packaging. Rear camera was missing. Item had no protection over camera or main mirror/screen. Bands to secure camera to mirrors are partially broken. Clearly a used item. I paid for a NEW one!
