Wonderful story and beautifully illustrated!

I loved everything about this book by Vickie Lee! The storyline is adventurous and good at highlighting some of the traditions of Chinese New Year. It also teaches the reader about the animals of the Chinese zodiac. It has a cute twist at the end about the cat in the story. I would say this story is a simplified but cuter version of the actual legend. Joey Chou is one of my favorite illustrators and he did an amazing job! Every page is full of color and the characters are well drawn out! There is also a short arts and crafts section at the end. I would definitely recommend this book to those families wishing to teach their children about Chinese New Year and the legend behind the formation of animals in the Chinese zodiac!
