I recently bought one of these cards for use in my Raspberry Pi. The card was originally formatted exFAT, but you can easily be re-format it to suit your needs.

This can be used on the Switch 2 for data like screenshots and videos but you cannot install or play downloaded Switch 2 games on the standard microSDXC card. To expand your Switch 2's storage for games, you must look for a card that explicitly says "MicroSD Express" on the packaging and has the EX logo on the card itself. It's a new and specific requirement to ensure games load quickly enough.

That's a very timely question! Since the Nintendo Switch 2 has recently launched, the compatibility rules have changed.
Here is a clear answer regarding the compatibility of that specific SanDisk microSDXC card with both consoles:
Why They Are Different
The difference lies in the technology:
Original Switch: Uses the UHS-I bus interface, which has a speed limit of about 100 MB/s. Your SanDisk card is designed for this speed.
Switch 2: Requires the new microSD Express format, which can reach speeds of up to 900 MB/s. This uses a completely different set of electrical contacts and is not backward compatible with the older, slower UHS-I cards.
In summary: You can use your SanDisk 256GB microSDXC card on your original Nintendo Switch (or Switch Lite/OLED), but you will need to purchase a new microSD Express card if you upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2.
