Singer C5980Q Patchwork Plus Sewing and Quilting Machine

The SINGER® Patchwork™ Plus quickly became one of the machines I reached for most in my sewing space. It is easy to set up, easy to learn, and practical enough for everyday sewing while still offering enough stitch options and helpful features to support more creative projects. One of my favorite details is the top drop-in bobbin. Being able to easily load the bobbin and see when thread is getting low makes sewing feel more straightforward, especially when I am working through longer seams or switching between projects. I also really enjoy the expanded stitch selection because it gives me more flexibility than a basic sewing machine without making the controls feel overwhelming. This machine helped me build confidence with techniques beyond a standard straight stitch. Before I owned a serger, I learned how to use the overcast foot and an overcast stitch to create a clean, mock-serged finish along raw edges. That was especially useful for making projects look more polished while also helping me understand the purpose of seam finishing before moving into serging. Over the past year, I have used this machine for several book cases and sleeves, a quilted hot tools mat, dog bandanas, and even my own Halloween costume as well as my best friend’s. It has handled a wide range of projects and fabrics for me, including stretch fabric and sequined fabric, which made it feel especially versatile for the kinds of creative sewing projects I enjoy. This machine was especially useful when my HUSQVARNA® VIKING® DESIGNER RUBY™ 90 was set up for embroidery and I still wanted a dedicated machine ready for sewing. Unfortunately, my Patchwork™ Plus foot control developed a wiring issue that requires replacement, so it is not currently getting the sewing time it once did. Before that issue, though, it was a consistent favorite for both practical projects and more detailed creative makes. Overall, I would recommend the Patchwork™ Plus to someone who wants an approachable sewing machine with room to explore quilting, accessories, garments, decorative stitches, and other creative projects. It is a machine that feels easy to grow into while still being simple enough to use for everyday sewing.

Everything is good except the needle treader does not work. If I could get a replacement I would be happy but no one has one.

The only thing I dislike about my machine is the lack of space when you remove the front piece that holds all the presser feet storage. Once you have clips on your fabric you can’t rotate your project without the clips getting stuck due to no room to rotate your project around and sew. My moms Brother machine has tons of room to rotate my project around without popping the clips off. The taupe base gets in the way. I wish I would have researched better and also seen the model that has the thread cutting button. I probably should have returned it, but I didn’t want to deal with sending it back.

Love being able to have needle go down while chain stitching quilt pieces. Wish reverse button was the lowest. Don’t need the two pull out plastics of switch on the bottom.

So I love this machine! I had bought a bigger one Originally, and it had gotten cracked during delivery. So I returned it. I am so happy that I ended up with this one! Lighter weight and smaller and simple. I stepped up from a plain heavy duty one .

I use my machine daily! It is portable if I need to take it to my quilting group. It’s VERY user friendly even for beginners. I have recommended it to fellow quilters looking for a new machine. I especially love the fancy stitches I can use for my quilt borders and hem. Great value for the price. No complaints. I love sewing on this machine.

I got this machine and I have been having issues. Tension is always wrong. The store where I got it is closed and cannot take it back. What can I do!!

I like the ease and functionality of this model.

I haven't used it yet. Still reading the owner's manual. Two presser feet are missing; cording. foot M, &even feed foot.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Since the day I got my machine I had issues. It would skip stitches in folds of just cotton, this is a quilt machine after all!!!! And now 6 months into my machine as I was trying to accept it as is m, I am now facing electrical issues it just keeps on sewing after I let the pedal go. What a nightmare so much for the warranty, nearest center is 460 miles away! Now I have to spend money on shipping it there and getting it back to me. Very disappointed with my purchase. Looks like singer doesn’t match up to its name anymore.

As a newbie quilter I treated myself to a new Singer Patchwork Plus machine. It has many of the features that will be of benefit for all my quilting requirements. It was great value for a good machine, with on exception. The walking foot does not have a guide that extends far enough forward to be of any value. A very poor selection of a walking foot to be included with a machine that is for quilting. I already have purchased a new walking foot and am awaiting its arrival. Thankfully the new foot was not expensive.

This is a lot of sewing machine for the price - great value! I find it easy to understand (print out the manual!) and it sews beautifully. I've played around quite a bit with a variety of stitches and feet, and am so pleased. The motor is reasonably quiet and runs smoothly. The foot pedal is sensitive enough to start and stop with ease, but not so sensitive that it takes off on you or tires out your leg. The many accessories included are a bargain. My greatest challenge has been putting on the walking foot; it's a tight fit, but once it's on, it works great. I have also taken this machine to a class at my local quilting shop and found it to be very portable. Highly recommended.

I have loved this machine since day 1!! It was out of time briefly which I quickly learned to fix myself and off to sew we go!!!!

I just started using my sewing machine and it amazing! I haven’t done much on it yet but learning to use it will come slowly.. I will give another review in 30 days.

I just bought this machine a few days ago. I love everything it except the pressure foot . It seems like it site too close to the plate . There is not enough room to slid your quilt sandwich under it with out tugging and pulling .

I bought the Singer Patchwork Plus C5980Q machine 10 days ago, and love everything about it. It was simple to unpack and set up. The user manual that I downloaded has helped me with any questions I have had. Last machine I purchased was in 1985 and has none of the cool features i am seeing in this machine. I couldn't be happier.

My wife is very happy with her new sewing machine. It sew's everything including heavy denim.

I bought this machine a couple of weeks ago. It is well made and sturdy. So far it works pretty well. This is not a complete review as I have not been able to test all the functions and different stitches. It would be nice if the manual for this machine model was readily available. The cloth cover that comes with the machine is really flimsy and is soo big and loose in covering the machine. There is no cover for the extension table. It would have been nice if it came with the canvas cover like the patchwork 7285Q that covers both the machine and has a pouch where you can store the extension table. As this machine is also for quilting, a lot of thread is required. It would have been great to make the spool pin have the ability to accommodate the big quilting thread spools. I tried to put one on and it did not work out well ans it kept getting caught on the plastic. Despite these few things, I give it 4 stars. It is a work in progress and I will continue to learn this machine and give it more of a chance.
