Propulsive Thriller with Unexpected Surprises
The latest book by a master storyteller had me captivated by the plot and intrigued by the characters. A serial killer is stalking the women in a small town and changing lives forever because the bodies are not found but the young women are missing, always on the same date of May 1st. When Jules Delaney is attacked and survives, she is counted among the “lucky ones” but she is not so sure that she considers herself lucky since she is going through life terrified that her attacker will return for her. Her high school friend and study hall buddy, Quinn Riley, is a fascinating character of victimhood and overcoming, but he is a different kind of victim than Jules. His victimhood is because of family circumstances and not having a good support system whereas Jules’ victimhood is because she was in the wrong place at the right time for the May Day Killer. The plot was edgy and suspense-filled with head-spinning twists that are a signature of the author. It also has relentless tension as the scene changes points of view and the timeline progresses to each new year of a new day with another victim of the elusive killer. The characterization was rich and deep, with realistically flawed characters who try to overcome but fall into pits of despair along the way. This novel is a cleverly written page turner that is gritty, exciting and multi-layered in a way that kept me trying to figure out who the killer was and what would happen next to Quinn and Jules. Skillfully combining a developing love story with a dark mystery in a book with tension coming from every page made for a great ride towards truth in this believable and fascinating novel, filled with thrills. This book is a slam dunk five plus stars for me that is one of the author’s best and definitely a must read for fans of dark suspense and a skillfully plotted mystery. I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions expressed are my own.

Unputdownable
I really liked that there are two intertwining stories here. Following the lives of both Jules and Quinn separately until they realize just how forever connected they are. Also ~ There is a serial killer on the loose, another mystery to solve, and twists that are shocking 😲 Plan to read ALL day when you pick this one up. Having to stop and adult was really annoying. Thank you to St.Martin's Press, Netgalley, and Alex Finlay for the chance to read this advance!
