About the Book
We're living in a busy, stressful, overwhelming era, and mental health has become an increasingly important topic of conversation as rates of anxiety and depression increase. Coming out of a global pandemic and in the midst of the proliferation of social media and technology, many people are looking for new ways to improve their state of mind and achieve serenity.
While it might not cure everything, nature is a powerful tool that anyone can access, regardless of age, outdoors experience, fitness level, or access to technical gear. With this book in hand, readers will find the inspiration and information needed to use nature to improve their mental and physical health. Part guidebook, part journalism, Therapy Hikes will be a definitive guide for anyone who would like to explore the healing power of the great outdoors.
This book will feature traditional guidebook chapters with practical details about specific soul-soothing destinations across the country. These hikes may be skewed to Colorado and other western states but will be primarily included as examples. Readers can explore these hikes themselves if they're close enough or use them as inspiration to find similar natural areas closer to home.
Book Synopsis
Harness the Healing Power of Nature--One Step at a Time. We know nature is good for the mind. But how do we turn that knowledge into habits that will promote real, lasting change? Part interactive memoir, part guided workbook, Trail Therapy: Finding Wholeness in Nature synthesizes cutting-edge science with everyday life. Journalist and author Jamie Siebrase distills the latest research on nature and movement, then takes it further, offering powerful personal stories, interviews, and hands-on tools to help you map out your own path to emotional healing. With engaging writing prompts and a series of outdoor activities, you'll discover how to:
Identify and design walking/rolling routes that boost mental wellness
Navigate the science of "therapy trails"
Integrate time in nature into your busy life with realistic, research-backed strategies
Along the way, you'll hear from real people whose lives were transformed on the trail--and be invited to step outside and begin your own healing journey. Whether you're just starting your wellness journey or deepening an existing one, this immersive guidebook will help you walk into a better, brighter headspace.
About the Author
Jamie Siebrase is a longtime Denver journalist, trained naturalist, passionate environmentalist, and the author of three Falcon guidebooks. Her nature-based children's book - Tonight: A Bedtime Story - is all about Rocky Mountain animals and a kiddo who'd rather play make believe than go to bed. If she's not outside exploring Colorado with her family, or working to establish a community composting program in her neighborhood, Jamie's probably writing about parenting and the outdoors for a variety of magazines and newspapers.
