Q: On this particular light since the hanging cord is 5 feet and not adjustable would this work for a kitchen island in a house with 8 foot ceilings

A: So the shade would literally sit one foot above the island! So sad that it’s not adjustable.

I’m putting 4 stars for now. I haven’t installed them yet, so I’ll update this after install. These are “adjustable” in the sense that you’d cut the wires to shorten them (same as any other ceiling light). The rod it hangs from comes in 5 segments. Without shade- Minimum hanging height- 14” (ceiling to top of shade) Main section- 12” Four removable sections- 6” Minimum height- ceiling to bottom of shade- 26” With six inch intervals: 32”, 38”, 44” Max hanging height- 50”

These are so beautiful and I ordered two of these to go over my island but received two different items. One of the lamp shades is longer than the other and looks really bad once installed. The shade that was longer than the other also was terrible quality and threads were falling apart from the top. Super disappointed :(
