We Too Shall Arise - by Robert Kolb (Hardcover)

About the Book

All of us will die, yet rather than preparing for death, we try to avoid thinking about it. This thoughtful examination of how Christians can live and die in the hope of resurrection draws on biblical and historical teaching from Martin Luther and others to help you walk through grief, live boldly despite chronic illness, and look forward to what is to come.

Book Synopsis

How to Live and Die in the Hope of the Resurrection

Death comes too soon for some and too late for others, but in the end it comes for us all. Yet we spend much of our lives ignoring it, fearing it, or attempting to postpone it. If death is inescapable, how should Christians prepare?

Centuries ago, medieval Christians developed a guide to dying well--known as the ars moriendi, "the art of dying"--and the Protestant Reformers, including Luther himself, extended and deepened it. Luther wrote hymns and pastoral guides specifically for those facing death, grounding the act of dying not in fear of judgment but in confidence in Christ's resurrection. In We Too Shall Arise, Robert Kolb recovers this rich tradition and extends it for Christian readers today.

Drawing on Scripture, the hymns of the church, and his own personal experience, Kolb walks with readers through the valley--reminding them at every step that the risen Jesus shines brighter than the thickest darkness. This is a book for:
● Those who have received a dire diagnosis, who need to know how to face their own death with faith, hope, and the comfort of a risen Lord
● Those walking alongside the dying--pastors, family members, caregivers, and friends who want to accompany a loved one through their final journey with wisdom and grace
● Those simply trying to wisely number their days--Christians who know death is coming and want to live in the light of resurrection rather than in the shadow of denial

No matter what brings you to this subject, Kolb will show you how to focus on the comfort provided by our risen Lord, who alone has the words of life.

How to live and die in the hope of the resurrection

Death comes too soon for some and too late for others, but in the end, it does come for us all. Yet we spend much of our lives ignoring it, fearing it, or attempting to postpone it. If death is inescapable, how should Christians prepare?

Centuries ago, medieval Christians developed a guide to dying, known as "the art of dying" (ars moriendi, in Latin), that the Protestant Reformers developed further. In this compassionate and hopeful book, Robert Kolb recovers and adds to this rich tradition to help Christians face the shadow of death in the light of the resurrection.

Reflecting on Scripture, hymns, and his own personal experience, Kolb walks with you through the valley, reminding you every step of the way that the risen Jesus shines brighter than the thickest darkness. If you have received a dire diagnosis, are walking alongside the dying, or are simply trying to come to grips with your own mortality and wisely number your days, Kolb will show you how to focus on the comfort provided by our risen Lord, who alone has the words of life.
