Secrets, Salt Marshes, and a Story That Stays With You
Some books quietly pull you in, and Where the Sea Lavender Grows did exactly that. It is the first book I have read by Kitty Johnson, and it definitely will not be my last. This dual-timeline novel is set in North Norfolk, England, and while the beginning was a little slow for me, I soon found myself pulled into the story. The two timelines flowed nicely, and Lillia’s perspective was the one that stayed with me the most. I loved the Norfolk setting, especially the beautiful salt marshes, and the author’s descriptions made the area easy to picture. The story touches on art restoration, World War II, grief, a struggling marriage, the loss of a child, and an old family mystery. While the paranormal element was not my favorite and the mystery was fairly easy to piece together, I still found the story enjoyable and worth the read. The ending was satisfying, and Where the Sea Lavender Grows is an engaging, emotional read that left a lovely impression long after I finished it.
