About the Author

Writer/artist Larry Hama got his start as a penciler before becoming a respected editor and later a writer during the '80s with his career-defining work on G.I. Joe and a memorable run on Wolverine. Through the years, Hama proved his versatility writing Avengers, Blaze, Elektra, Generation X, The Punisher: War Zone and multiple Venom miniseries. When Devil's Due, IDW and Image Comics in turn obtained the G.I. Joe license, Hama revisited his iconic Marvel run, continuing where he had left off years earlier and bringing the series to -- and past -- a record-breaking three hundred issues. At Continuity Comics, he created Bucky O'Hare, launching a franchise that extended to animation, video games and a toy line. Hama recently revisited his era helming the adventures of Logan with the Wolverine: Patch limited series.

Peter David is one of the industry's most prolific and versatile writers whose record-breaking stint on Incredible Hulk remains a fan-favorite to this day. His similarly long-running -- and critically acclaimed -- association with X-Factor began in the early 1990s and continued in 2005 and 2014. His other Marvel work includes Captain Marvel, two lengthy stints on Spider-Man 2099, Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider and the smash-hit Symbiote Spider-Man limited series and its sequels with artist Greg Land. David is also a novelist and screenwriter. Among his credits are some forty Star Trek tie-ins; original novels such as Sir Apropos of Nothing, Howling Mad and Knight Life; movies Trancers 4 and Trancers 5; and episodes of Babylon 5 and Crusade. He also co-created the TV show Space Cases with actor-writer Bill Mumy.

John Byrne has worked continuously in the comics industry as both writer and artist since 1975. After he initially collaborated with writer Chris Claremont on Iron Fist, Byrne and Claremont moved on to X-Men for a run still regarded as one of the title's finest. Byrne contributed an equally famed stint on Fantastic Four, earning comparisons to the original Lee/Kirby issues for his imaginative plotlines and dynamic artwork. He also spun Alpha Flight into its own title. In 1986, he revamped DC's flagship hero, Superman, reimagining the Man of Steel in a historic project heralded by a Time magazine cover. His remarkable contribution to the Marvel Universe extends to memorable associations with virtually every major hero, including celebrated runs on Captain America, Iron Man, Sensational She-Hulk, Namor the Sub-Mariner and Thing. In the 21st century, Byrne's considerable body of work includes IDW's Star Trek and Angel.

Jim Lee is perhaps today's hottest comic-book artist. Since the late '80s, his work for Marvel, DC and Image -- the company he helped found -- has set trends that survive to this day. After honing his skills with memorable runs on Alpha Flight and Punisher War Journal, Lee rose to prominence on Uncanny X-Men. Lee then revamped the mutant team's look and helped launch the second X-Men series, whose first issue remains one of the best-selling comic books of all time. In 1992, he and other artists formed Image Comics. Lee's group of titles, published under the Wildstorm Productions imprint, included the mega-popular WildC.A.T.s, Stormwatch and Gen13. Under Wildstorm's sub-imprint Homage Comics, he published Kurt Busiek's Astro City and Strangers in Paradise, both of which became major fan favorites. Lee returned to Marvel in 1996, relaunching Fantastic Four as part of the "Heroes Reborn" event. Subsequently selling Wildstorm to DC Comics, Lee went on to pencil Batman, Superman and WildC.A.T.s. Later, as DC Comics' co-publisher, he helped revamp and reconceptualize the company's entire lineup.

Scott Lobdell wrote both Uncanny X-Men and X-Men during the 1990s. He also launched Generation X and Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix, and penned Alpha Flight and Fantastic Four. Elsewhere, he wrote Dark Horse's Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Fabian Nicieza, Wildstorm's Gen13, Top Cow's Darkness, and IDW's Ghostbusters: Displaced Aggression and Galaxy Quest. Lobdell scripted Stan Lee's animated film Mosaic and has performed as a stand-up comedian.

Barry Windsor-Smith -- best known for Marvel's Conan and Red Sonja -- also illustrated memorable Uncanny X-Men, Iron Man and Daredevil stories; he revealed Wolverine's origin in the "Weapon X" serial. Windsor-Smith has also published several art books in the tradition of Dante Gabriel Rossetti.

Industry giant Marc Silvestri entered the upper echelon of comics innovators in the late '80s during fan-favorite, record-breaking runs on Uncanny X-Men and Wolverine. Silvestri left Marvel in 1992 to co-found Image Comics; his imprint, Top Cow, is one of its four longstanding autonomous studios. At Image, Silvestri created some of today's most popular properties -- including Cyberforce, Witchblade, Weapon Zero and The Darkness. Silvestri has returned to the world of Marvel's mutants on New X-Men and X-Men: Messiah Complex.

After an artistic apprenticeship under famed father Joe Kubert, Andy Kubert got his start on DC's space-opera variations Adam Strange and Warlord, as well as the best-selling crossover Batman vs. Predator in collaboration with brother Adam. Kubert's Marvel career began with a six-year stint on X-Men -- continuing into Thor, Ka-Zar, Ghost Rider and others. He collaborated with Orson Scott Card on Ultimate Iron Man, Neil Gaiman on Marvel 1602 and Paul Jenkins on Wolverine: Origin.
