Q: Does the Square Space protection plan replace the controller with a refurbished controller or a new one if it breaks or stops working.

submitted by karenl - 3 years ago
  • A: target protection plans overlap with the Microsoft warranty so if you buy 2 years you actually only get 1 because Microsoft already covers 1 year.

I did a lot of research before buying this controller. One of the things I read was the RB "phantom pressing." I wanted a controller with paddles so I bought it anyway. I had the controller for 8 months and the RB stopped working. I thought I would be one of the lucky ones, but it happened to me. I tried taking the controller apart and fixing it myself; the mechanism that is connected to the RB is poorly built and WILL wear out depending on how often you play. Objectively, the features on the controller are great; the paddles, the magnetic joysticks that you can swap out, and the customization are amazing. I would not recommend paying full price. If you can get it on sale, or refurbished for a good discount, try it out. DO NOT PAY FULL PRICE FOR THIS CONTROLLER. I'd rate it 5 stars for features, and 1 star for quality; but to me, great features DOES NOT surpass an expensive controller that will likely fail within the first year. Microsoft should have recalled these. Hope this helps.

I don't spend a lot of time gaming and the time I do spend is spread between keyboard/mouse, racing wheel, and this Xbox Elite controller. After only 15 months, the right bumper stopped working. Of course, they only warranty it for 12 months. I always kept this in its case and never abused it (slammed, thrown down, etc...). For $150+, I would expect MUCH more longevity. When it it was working, it was an amazing controller.

I bought it and loved it! Firm grip, usb-c charging and the battery lasting very long! The issue for me with the control is the RB button would not budge. Anytime I would click it, the game wouldn't respond so it made the remote useless. Then my right stick kept drifting. To pay this much is not worth it. Instead, buy the white with black handles series 2 controller and the paddles seperate. Would come out wayyyy cheaper for anyone interested. Beautiful controller though

Quality control is a big issue, I’m on my second Xbox elite within a month because both controllers have had stick drift straight out of the box. Despite the stick drift the the controller feels like it has so much potential. Going to return and try one more controller, crazy for even thinking about doing this but I hope I hit a diamond in the rough.

It is a great controller until it breaks. My rb button went out 2 weeks out of the 1 year Microsoft warranty. Apparently this is a common issue. For the price it should not break so quickly. Definitely will skip this one in the future. Just stick to the cheaper regular controllers.

Dirty Used controller

1 out of 5 stars
Chris H - 1 year ago
Literally bought this controller from target last night. When I got home and opened the box there was a dirty used controller inside. It had visible grime all over it and in the cracks. Flipped it over and the lettering was faded and the serial # didn’t match the one on the box. Awesome job! I can’t even get home and use it for month before it breaks due to these reviews, used junk from the store.

ATTENTION Gamers, Parents & Christmas Shoppers. Within a 2 month period of time my RB button became completely unresponsive. Both A & B buttons stick. Paddles respond approximately 80% of the time. Crazy thing is, is I switch back and forth between my PS5 & Xbox controllers because I'm a PC player, so I haven't put that much use to it. IMO, if you're on PC and are looking to use a controller, go with a PS5! If you're on system, I'd recommend throwing the whole thing away. Switch to PC or a PlayStation. Otherwise, Xbox controllers are going to burn a hole in your pocket within a few months of each purchase because the warranty game is played well by the companies. The warranties won't save you & the company is a joke. Marketing at its finest. smh

Had two other elite series 2 controllers that both had the RB button go out and would work about half the time. Thinking of buying a third and seeing all these reviews make me think otherwise now. It is a very good controller that is very customizable but the buttons need some work.

DO NOT BUY THIS CONTROLLER

Matt - 1 year ago
NOT BUY THIS CONTROLLER. I have purchased this controller and it is gauranteed to break. The buttons will become unresponsive after about a month of use. If you go through manufacturer for warranty they do not do a swap they will attempt to repair. The repair will not work and they will eventually swap it out after you've been without your controller for a month. The replacement controller will last about month. They will eventually send you a used controller that is no longer under warranty so they so not have to deal with you. I have purchased this controller 2 times because I had hoped maybe they have improved on their product after they swapped mine out with one that is not under warranty, but the quality is still bad

Hands down the best controller ever until the buttons stop working. apparently everyone had that issue. my left button only register in pressing a button 10% of the time maybe. Would not recommend this over priced piece of crap that had potential of being awesome if they just worked out the issues with the bumpers.

I've had to send it in for replacement four times now and each time its sent back with a different issue. Biggest issues are stick drift and bumpers going out. The replacements they send feel used not refurbished just like they shuffle around people's broken controllers to other people.
