Most kits include a prepared blank (perforated artificial leather or figured plywood), needles, cotton thread (floss or mouline), and printed instructions/embroidery scheme. When specified, kits also include extras such as a plastic insert, key ring, beads, or bead-embroidery thread.

Kits supply floss and mouline thread, both specified as 100% cotton. When noted, they also include additional thread for stitching specific parts and separate thread for bead embroidery.
