Burn times vary by size and style: mini/votive candles can burn as little as ~7 hours, many common jar candles burn in the 30–65 hour range, and large multi-wick jars can reach around 72 hours.

Common formulations include natural soy wax blends and plant-based wax blends. Some jar candles use paraffin blended with soy or other formulations.

Many candles come in reusable glass vessels or ceramic jars with lids; empty containers are often suitable for storage or can be refilled using wax refill kits.
