Many 16 oz insulated tumblers are made from stainless steel; others use plastic or combinations such as polycarbonate and ceramic. Some listings specify food-grade 18/8 stainless steel (including recycled 18/8 stainless steel).
Tumbler lids vary. Common types include flip lids, flip-open safety lids, push-to-open or push-button locking lids, straw-and-spout designs, leakproof auto-seal mechanisms, and removable drink-through or sliding lids.
Many listings specify suitability for both hot and cold beverages. A few models are intended for cold drinks only and note all-ages use, and at least one listing explicitly states it should not be used with hot liquids. Check the product details for any age or temperature restrictions.
A few 16 oz tumblers include temperature-control electronics and a built-in battery to maintain a set drinking temperature. Reported details include around 3 hours of battery life and compatibility with a charging coaster and a smartphone app for temperature control—check the individual listing for exact specs.
Retention varies by model. Listed hot times range from about 3 to 11 hours; cold/iced retention ranges from about 6 to 30 hours. Individual product pages give the specific hours for each model.
Common lid features include leakproof or spill-proof seals, lids that lock between sips or include safety locks, flip-open or push-to-open tops, and drink-through or straw-compatible designs. Verify the listing for specific leakproof claims.
