Most of the hats list a built-in UPF 50 or UPF 50+ rating for sun protection. They also feature brims designed primarily to shade the face and eyes.

The majority are made from polyester variants (recycled polyester, microfiber, or 100% polyester). At least one option is cotton (denim).

Many toddler and infant hats use chinstrap buttons and adjustable toggles or ties for a custom fit. Some kids' bucket hats use a simple pull-on style without adjustable closures.

Typical brim lengths run about 2.25 to 2.9 inches, while crown heights are generally about 2.9 to 3.25 inches.

Many of the hats are machine-washable and should be line-dried or laid flat to dry. At least one kids' bucket hat lists hand wash and line-dry instructions.

Several hats advertise lightweight construction and include a mesh liner for added ventilation and comfort.
