Facial witch hazel pads are formulated for skin care tasks such as pore refining, acne control and light exfoliation and often include acne actives (for example, salicylic or glycolic acid). Perineal or hemorrhoid witch hazel pads are presented as cooling, cleansing, and soothing pads intended to relieve burning, itching and postpartum or rectal discomfort.

Instructions typically advise cleansing the area first, then applying pads externally (for example, up to six times daily or after bowel movements). You can fold a pre‑moistened pad to use as a moist compress and leave it in place up to about 15 minutes; perineal pad liners are recommended right away for postpartum cooling and can be chilled for extra relief.
