Mini Transformers figures commonly appear in very compact sizes. Typical examples in the results include about 1.5 inches (3.5 cm) for on-the-go figures and roughly 4 inches (10 cm) for slightly larger mini robots, with other small compact dimensions also available.
Most of the small Transformers shown are made of plastic. At least one collectible-style entry in the results also specifies use of a die-cast alloy in part of its construction.
Transformation complexity varies. Many mini figures convert in a single step or in a quick 2–5 step range; some designs use 4-step conversions, while a few multi-step figures go as high as around 21 steps.
Mini Transformers use several mechanics: one-step or “smash” conversions for instant play, quick multi-step transforms (commonly 2–5 or 4 steps), and launch-and-crash style play that uses included launchers to activate transformations.
