Most shipping pouches and padded mailers have a kraft paper outer shell with an inner bubble lining made from polyethylene or polypropylene. Some product listings simply list the material as Polyethylene, Plastic, or Polypropylene.

They typically use bubble-lined wall construction or multilayer padded bubble wrap to cushion items. Some listings specify a 2/16-inch bubble lining and polyethylene sheet bubble wrap inside for added padding and impact protection.

Some kraft-lined mailers are described as water resistant, while the inner polyethylene bubble lining is described as waterproof. Together they provide protection from rain and snow during shipping.

The cushion wrap roll is perforated every 12 inches for easy tearing and is sold as a 12 in. x 60 ft. roll to simplify packing and cutting to length.

Common uses include mailing papers, documents, photos and small items (like jewelry or coins), protecting paintings and fragile items, packing for moves, shipping gifts, and storing valuables.

Some listings note recycled content or recyclability: several mailers are made with recycled kraft paper or 100% recycled material. The cushion-wrap roll may not be recyclable in all areas and is made from the same material as plastic bags.
