Most ultralight hammocks are made from nylon (including ripstop nylon and recycled nylon). Some chair-style models use polyester.

Travel hammocks typically compress into a compact stuff sack. Examples in the results include an attached roll-top, water-resistant stuff sack about the size of a can of beer, and models that pack down to about the size of an eggplant and come with a compact stuff sack.

Many hammocks offer integrated mosquito netting with a fine mesh (noted as 600 holes per square inch), plus tie-out loops to create more internal space and a continuous ridgeline or tie-out system to support the netting.

Results describe water-resistant or weather-resistant fabrics, all-weather designs, and reinforced stitching for improved durability.

Examples include 20-denier hexagonal ripstop nylon, UHMW-PE ultralight end cords and a UHMW-PE ridgeline, and lightweight aluminum carabiners.
