Truck tent floors and bases are most often made from synthetic materials such as polyester or polyethylene (PE). Other materials you’ll see in listings include nylon taffeta and, on some rooftop designs, PVC mesh bases. Many product descriptions simply list “polyester” or “PE” for the floor material.

Many truck tents are adjustable to fit short, standard, and long pickup beds — commonly about 5 to 8 feet. Some models give narrower ranges (for example 5–5.2 ft, 5.5–5.8 ft, or 6.4–6.7 ft), and a few are sized specifically for mid-length beds such as about 6–6.5 ft.

Water resistance varies by model. Many listings specify PU coatings (for example PU2000 or PU3000), while some give hydrostatic head ratings ranging roughly from 1,000 mm up to 10,000 mm. Several listings provide no numeric rating and simply state that the tent is water-resistant.

Truck tents use a mix of attachment methods: buckles or straps that secure to the truck or tailgate area, integrated tension straps for vehicle-mounted setups, and guylines and stakes to anchor the tent to the truck or ground. Structural support comes from pole-supported frames or pop-up mechanisms depending on the model.

Common features include interior storage pockets or built-in storage bags, mesh windows for ventilation, interior hooks for lights, and included carry bags. Some rooftop or vehicle-mounted models also add integrated air mattresses, shoe/storage pockets, or an awning for extra covered space.

Setup time depends on design: pop-up or instant tents can take about 1 minute, many vehicle/rooftop or instant-style units list around 5 minutes, and conventional pole-supported truck tents commonly list about 10 minutes.
